23pD-1 Collective Low Frequency Modes in Strongly Coupled Dusty Plasmas
- P. Kaw
- Physics
- 21 September 1998
The influence of strong correlations on low frequency collective modes in a dusty plasma is investigated. The dust dynamics is modeled by the generalized hydrodynamics description. For the well known…
Collective Modes in Strongly Coupled Dusty Plasmas
We have studied the propagation of low frequency waves in strongly coupled dusty plasmas. The dust dynamics has been modelled using the generalized hydrodynamics description which accounts for the…
Whistlerization and anisotropy in two-dimensional electron magnetohydrodynamic turbulence
- S. Dastgeer, A. Das, P. Kaw, P. Diamond
- Physics
- 18 January 2000
A detailed numerical simulation to understand the turbulent state of the decaying two-dimensional electron magnetohydrodynamics is presented. It is observed that the evolved spectrum is comprised of…
Parametric Instabilities of Electromagnetic Waves in Plasmas
A simple formalism for the parametric decay of an intense, coherent electromagnetic wave into an electrostatic wave and scattered electromagnetic waves in a homogeneous plasma is developed. Various…
Relativistic Nonlinear Propagation of Laser Beams in Cold Overdense Plasmas
The nonlinear propagation of a very intense laser beam in a cold overdense plasma is analytically investigated; the laser beam is assumed to be intense enough to cause the directed component of…
Experimental study of nonlinear dust acoustic solitary waves in a dusty plasma.
- P. Bandyopadhyay, G. Prasad, A. Sen, P. Kaw
- PhysicsPhysical Review Letters
- 30 May 2008
The excitation and propagation of finite-amplitude low-frequency solitary waves are investigated in an argon plasma impregnated with kaolin dust particles and the velocity and width increase and the width decreases with the increase of the modulating voltage, but the product of the solitary wave amplitude and the square of the width remains nearly constant.
Coalescence instability of magnetic islands
The stability of a periodic magnetic island structure using the ideal magnetohydrodynamic equations has been investigated. An instability is found which describes the tendency toward coalescence of…
Filamentation and trapping of electromagnetic radiation in plasmas
- P. Kaw, G. Schmidt, T. Wilcox
- Physics
- 1 September 1973
It is shown that an electromagnetic wave interacting with a plasma is subject to instabilities leading to light filamentation. Nonlinear solutions for light filaments and light trapping are also…
Excitation of the modified Simon–Hoh instability in an electron beam produced plasma
- Y. Sakawa, C. Joshi, P. Kaw, Francis F. Chen, V. Jain
- Physics
- 1 June 1993
An intermediate frequency (fci≤f≤fce) electrostatic instability has been observed in an electron beam produced, cylindrical plasma column. This instability has been identified as a new instability,…
