- Biology
- 2012
Aulacoseira brasiliensis was found in lotic and lentic environments of tropical and subtropical regions from Brazil and is characterized by forming short chains linked by ovate-attenuate spines, rounded areolae occluded by vola, undeveloped ringleist and sessile rimoportulae arranged in two circumferential alternate rows.

This is the first study focusing on centric diatoms in the flora of the state of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, and presents a detailed light, transmission and scanning electron microscopy analysis of Skeletonema potamos, a diatom rarely found in the Brazilian literature.
Acanthoceras and Urosolenia species (Diatomeae) in subtropical reservoirs from South Brazil: Ultrastructure, distribution and autoecology
- P. I. Tremarin, E. G. Freire, V. M. Algarte, T. A. Ludwig
- Environmental Science
- 1 March 2015
Cellular densities differed among evaluated reservoirs showing strong correlations with inorganic nitrogen concentrations, N/P ratio and temperature and confirmed that species respond strongly to local environmental gradients.

- P. I. Tremarin, Rosildo Santos Paiva, T. A. Ludwig, L. C. Torgan
- Environmental Science
- 1 October 2013
A new diatom species is described from specimens in plankton samples from Ćgua Preta lake, located in northern Brazil, which shares similarities as to frustule size, striation pattern, and narrowness of ringleist; but differs in the morphology of separation and linking spines, and the number and position of the rimoportulae.
Aulacoseira veraluciae sp. nov. (Coscinodiscophyceae, Aulacoseiraceae): a common freshwater diatom from Brazil
- P. I. Tremarin, T. A. Ludwig, L. C. Torgan
- Biology
- 7 November 2014
Examination of samples from different aquatic environments from Brazil revealed the presence of a new Aulacoseira species, characterized mainly by the straight pervalvar rows of areolae, morphology of the linking spines, shape and position of the rimoportulae on the valve mantle, deepness and thickness of the ringleiste.
