Pratylenchus (Nematoda: Pratylenchidae): Diagnosis, Biology, Pathogenicity and Management
- P. Castillo, N. Vovlas
- Biology
- 28 February 2008
Root-lesion nematodes of the genus Pratylenchus are recognized worldwide as one of the major constraints of crop of primary economic importance including vegetables, and many small and fruit trees.…

Molecular Characterization of Meloidogyne hispanica (Nematoda, Meloidogynidae) by Phylogenetic Analysis of Genes Within the rDNA in Meloidogyne spp.
- B. Landa, J. E. P. Rius, P. Castillo
- BiologyPlant Disease
- 11 June 2008
Maximum parsimony analysis of the three rDNA regions and the species-specific PCR demonstrated and supported the differentiation of M. hispanica from M. arenaria and from all described root-knot nematode species.
Nematicidal activity of essential oils and organic amendments from Asteraceae against root-knot nematodes
- M. P. Pérez, J. A. Navas‐Cortés, M. J. Pascual-Villalobos, P. Castillo
- Biology
- 1 June 2003
In vitro and in planta results suggest that the essential oil of C. coronarium and organic amendments from Asteraceae species may serve as nematicides, and the biological processes of mortality and hatching/reproduction were adequately described by the monomolecular and expanded negative exponential models.
Integrative taxonomy of the stunt nematodes of the genera Bitylenchus and Tylenchorhynchus (Nematoda, Telotylenchidae) with description of two new species and a molecular phylogeny
- Z. Handoo, J. E. Palomares-Rius, C. Cantalapiedra‐Navarrete, G. Liébanas, S. Subbotin, P. Castillo
- Biology
- 1 October 2014
A test of alternative hypotheses that confirms the monophyly of both Tylenchorhynchus and Bitylenchus sensu Siddiqi's classification but does not support Fortuner & Luc's conceptual view of Tylfenchus as a large genus is provided.
Isolation and characterization of PRA1, a trypsin-like protease from the biocontrol agent Trichoderma harzianum CECT 2413 displaying nematicidal activity
- B. Suárez, M. Rey, P. Castillo, E. Monte, A. Llobell
- BiologyApplied Microbiology and Biotechnology
- 20 May 2004
Northern analysis indicated that PRA1 is induced by conditions simulating antagonism, is subject to nitrogen and carbon derepression, and is affected by pH in the culture media, suggesting that Pra1 has additive or synergistic effects with other proteins produced during the antagonistic activity of T. harzianum.

Pathogenicity of the root‐knot nematode Meloidogyne javanica on potato
- N. Vovlas, D. Mifsud, B. Landa, P. Castillo
- Biology
- 1 October 2005
Host‐parasite relationships and pathogenicity of Meloidogyne javanica on potatoes (newly recorded from Malta) were studied under glasshouse and natural conditions and root galling was proportional to the initial nematode population density.
Protection of olive planting stocks against parasitism of root-knot nematodes by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
- P. Castillo, A. Nico, C. Azcón-Aguilar, C. Rincon, C. Calvet, R. Jiménez-Díaz
- Biology
- 5 June 2006
It is concluded that prior inoculation of olive plants with AMF may contribute to improving the health status and vigour of cvs Arbequina and Picual planting stocks during nursery propagation.
