- BiologyScience
- 13 July 2012
Feedbacks regulating Cdc42 oscillations and spatial self-organization appear to provide a flexible mechanism for fission yeast cells to explore polarization states and to control their morphology.
FEM-based oxygen consumption and cell viability models for avascular pancreatic islets
- P. Buchwald
- BiologyTheoretical Biology and Medical Modelling
- 16 April 2009
Finite element method (FEM) based multiphysics models are explored to describe oxygen transport and cell viability in avascular islets both in static and in moving culture media and confirm that during culture, hypoxia is often a problem for non-vascularised islet and can lead to considerable cell death (necrosis), especially in the core region of larger islets.
Phosphorylation-dependent inhibition of Cdc42 GEF Gef1 by 14-3-3 protein Rad24 spatially regulates Cdc42 GTPase activity and oscillatory dynamics during cell morphogenesis
- Maitreyi E. Das, Illyce Nuñez, F. Verde
- BiologyMolecular Biology of the Cell
- 1 October 2015
The 14-3-3 protein Rad24 modulates the availability of CDC42 GEF Gef1, spatially regulating Cdc42 activity during cell morphogenesis, and promotes anticorrelated Cdc41 oscillations at cell tips.

Characterization of twenty-five ovarian tumour cell lines that phenocopy primary tumours
- T. Ince, Aurea D Sousa, G. Mills
- BiologyNature Communications
- 17 June 2015
A cell culture medium is developed that enables us to routinely establish cell lines from diverse subtypes of human ovarian cancers with >95% efficiency and retain the genomic landscape, histopathology and molecular features of the original tumours.
A local glucose-and oxygen concentration-based insulin secretion model for pancreatic islets
- P. Buchwald
- Biology, MedicineTheoretical Biology and Medical Modelling
- 21 June 2011
An insulin secretion model was implemented by coupling local consumption and release rates to calculations of the spatial distributions of all species of interest, more suitable for biological systems, which are always nonlinear due to the maximum response being limited.
Ophthalmic drug design based on the metabolic activity of the eye: Soft drugs and chemical delivery systems
- N. Bodor, P. Buchwald
- Medicine, BiologyAAPS Journal
- 7 December 2005
This review will concentrate on-adrenergic agonists and anti-inflammatory corticosteroids, where clinical results obtained with new chemical entities exist to support the advantages of such metabolism-focused, ophthalmic-specific drug design approaches.
Molecular Size Based Approach To Estimate Partition Properties for Organic Solutes
- Nicholas Bodor and, P. Buchwald
- Chemistry
- 24 April 1997
A model is presented that achieves a remarkable reduction in the number of parameters used to predict the log octanol−water partition coefficient (log P) by using a three-dimensional estimate of…
