We studied immunohistological and biochemical aspects of the CD44 molecule with a mAb produced in our lab: GRHL-1. The characteristic expression of this antigen in cells of B lineage was analyzed. This mAb showed identical immunohistological patterns of reactivity to other mAbs included in CD44 cluster, on a variety lymphoid and nonlymphoid human tissues,(More)
We used the U937 cell line to analyze CD14, CD11/CD18, HLA class-I and DR antigen expression during PMA-induced differentiation. Treatment of U937 cells with PMA markedly increased CD14, CD11a, CD11b and CD18 antigen expression, and slightly increased CD11c expression. Protein kinase C may play a major role in regulating the expression of these antigens.(More)
Molecular characterization of HLA-class-I expression was investigated in human tumor cell lines at the protein and mRNA levels using locus-specific monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) and probes. Some cell lines exhibited a differential expression of HLA-A and HLA-B products and also showed differences in the inducibility of HLA-class-I genes by gamma-IFN. Thus,(More)
Virtual collaborative systems are vital tools for accessing and sharing scientific data visualizations. This paper shows how two different modes of collaboration can affect user performance in a specific exploration task. Experiments with groups of users that are working in pairs showed that the lack of mobility can affect the ability to achieve specific(More)
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is able to identify thrombus. We detect the frequency of thrombus inside the guiding catheter by OCT and its relationship with clinical and procedural factors. We screened 77 patients who underwent OCT pullbacks. Only patients with visible guiding catheter were finally included (35) and divided into thrombus (21) or(More)
BACKGROUND Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy (DMD and BMD, respectively), are common forms of inherited muscle disease. Information regarding the epidemiology of these conditions, including genotype, is still sparse. OBJECTIVE To establish the prevalence and genetic profile of DMD and BMD in Puerto Rico. METHODS We collected data from medical(More)
In this study, we have identified cystathionine (CTH), a sulfur containing metabolite, to be selectively enriched in human breast cancer (HBC) tissues (∼50-100 pmoles/mg protein) compared with undetectable levels in normal breast tissues. The accumulation of CTH, specifically in HBC, was attributed to the overexpression of cystathionine beta synthase (CBS),(More)
The current everyday use of mobile computing devices seems to be restricted to applications such as address books, calendars, task lists, simple web navigation and games. In this particular project we explore the use of a collaborative virtual environment, running on Tablet-PCs and PDAs, in the classroom, as means to support the learning process. We have(More)
A Leptospira strain was isolated from a hemoculture of a patient admitted with suspicion of leptospirosis that had been previously vaccinated. It corresponded to the Bataviae pathogenic complex. This result shows that there exists immunogenic specificity and that other serogroups should be incorporated to the current vaccine.
