The effects of both natural and sedated sleep on the auditory steady state evoked potential (SSEP) were evaluated in nine normal-hearing subjects. Both absolute amplitude and phase variability measures were obtained by Fourier analysis of successive samples of the averaged SSEP waveform. Amplitude decreased significantly in the sleeping state but phase(More)
Attempts have been made to improve noninvasive clinical blood pressure (BP) monitoring by using monitoring sites more easily accessible than the traditional brachium. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the performance of an automatic, noninvasive BP monitoring instrument that measures BP at the forearm. The only forearm BP monitoring(More)
We carried out extensive audiologic, electrophysiologic, and neuropsychologic testing on a young woman who complained that she had difficulty hearing in her educational environment. Conventional audiometric results, including pure-tone, speech, and immittance audiometry, were all within normal limits. The subject performed normally on tests involving the(More)
Background One of the most common modes of exercise among males is resistance training. The associated movements among the most common resistance training exercises completed include periods of both concentric and eccentric contraction. Previous research has demonstrated that repeated eccentric contractions of a muscle produce damaging results to the(More)
Carnosine is a naturally occurring intramuscular dipeptide that is thought to attenuate fatigue during high-intensity exercise. Carnosine content is influenced by various factors, including gender and diet. Despite research reporting that carnosine content is lower in women compared to men and lower in vegetarians compared to omnivores, no investigations(More)
Coker, NA, Wells, AJ, Ake, KM, Griffin, DL, Rossi, SJ, and McMillan, JL. Relationship between running performance and recovery-stress state in collegiate soccer players. J Strength Cond Res 31(8): 2131-2140, 2017-The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between changes in running performance and the stress-recovery state in collegiate(More)
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a bout of high-volume isokinetic resistance exercise (HVP) on lower-body strength and markers of inflammation and muscle damage during recovery between young and middle-aged men. Nineteen recreationally-trained men were classified as either a young adult (YA: 21.8 ± 2.0 y; 90.7 ± 11.6 kg) or(More)
A 31-year-old black male experienced severe recurrent urticaria and angioedema during meals. An abnormal sialographic pattern indicated submandibular sialoadenitis, and surgical excision of the gland resulted in complete resolution of the urticaria. This report describes the association of sialoadenitis and urticaria and possible mechanisms involved.
