An ecophytocenotic map has been compiled for southern Siberia at a scale of 1 : 1 000 000. The legend for mountainous areas includes information on the vegetation of the mapped units and environmental conditions (Σ t > 10°, annual precipitation, altitudes above sea, and topographic features).
In the forest-steppe zone, the plant species composition under the forest, especially birch, canopy can be quite similar to that of zonal grasslands. Three types of altitudinal zonation are described on the southern flank of the Tannu-Ola Ranges. Principal types of plant communities are characterized for each zone. Classification scheme is established.
Four types of mountain forest steppes have been specified in the Altai-Sayan mountain region. It has been shown that each type corresponds to a particular bioclimatic sector.
