During the course of the screening program for new antitumor antibiotics capable of inducing apoptosis in tumor cells, 6-hydroxytetrangulol6) was isolated as a caspase-3 inducer as well as two novel substances belonging to the benzo [d] naphtho [1, 2-b] pyran-6-one group.

Structures of novel immunosuppressants, stevastelin A, B and B3(1) were determined by their spectroscopic and chemical studies to be cyclic depsipeptides composed of a fatty acid and three amino acid moieties.

In order to study the role of STAT5in IL-3 signaling, and to find new growth inhibitors of leukaemic cells, inhibitors ofSTAT5 from microbial metabolites are screened using a luciferase reporter system in IL- 3 dependent Ba/F3 cells.
