GOLGI APPARATUS, GERL, AND LYSOSOMES OF NEURONS IN RAT DORSAL ROOT GANGLIA, STUDIED BY THICK SECTION AND THIN SECTION CYTOCHEMISTRY
- P. Novikoff, A. Novikoff, N. Quintana, J. Hauw
- BiologyJournal of Cell Biology
- 1 September 1971
Serial 0.5-µ and thin sections of thiamine pyrophosphatase-incubated material demonstrate that, in the neurons studied, the Golgi apparatus is a continuous network coursing through the cytoplasm, and suggest that GERL is also a continuous structure throughout the cy toplasm.
The peroxisomes of human hepatocytes.
- I. Sternlieb, N. Quintana
- MedicineLaboratory investigation; a journal of technical…
- 1 February 1977
It is concluded that various pathologic processes involving the hepatocytic cytoplasm exert different effects on peroxisomes, and a possible involvement of perxisomes ought to be considered whenever metabolic or pathologic process affect the liver.
STUDIES ON MICROPEROXISOMES II. A CYTOCHEMICAL METHOD FOR LIGHT AND ELECTRON MICROSCOPY
- A. Novikoff, P. Novikoff, C. Davis, N. Quintana
- BiologyJournal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry
- 1 December 1972
A modification of the Novikoff-Goldfischer alkaline 3,3'-diaminobenzidine medium for visualizing peroxisomes is described. It makes possible light microscopic as well as electron microscopic studies…
Morphologic and chemical studies on a murine mutation (toxic milk mice) resulting in hepatic copper toxicosis.
- L. Biempica, H. Rauch, N. Quintana, I. Sternlieb
- MedicineLaboratory investigation; a journal of technical…
- 1 October 1988
Comparisons with other inherited mammalian disorders associated with hepatic copper toxicosis indicate that copper causes species specific organelle injury.

Studies of the secretory process in the mammalian exocrine pancreas. I. The condensing vacuoles
- A. Novikoff, M. Mori, N. Quintana, A. Yam
- BiologyJournal of Cell Biology
- 1 October 1977
Phosphatase cytochemistry was used to distinguish between the Golgi apparatus and GERL in pancreatic exocrine cells of guinea pig, rat, rabbit, and hamster, and it is proposed that some secretory components may have direct access to the condensing vacuoles from ER.
DIFFUSION ARTIFACTS IN 3,3'-DIAMINOBENZIDINE CYTOCHEMISTRY
- A. Novikoff, P. Novikoff, N. Quintana, C. Davis
- BiologyJournal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry
- 1 September 1972
The results indicate that fixation, dehydration and embedding employed do not disturb the antigen-antibody reaction, and GMA sect ions gave clearer localization of the antigen and antibody at both the cytologic and histologic level than frozen or paraffin sections.
NUCLEOSIDE PHOSPHATASE AND CHOLINESTERASE ACTIVITIES IN DORSAL ROOT GANGLIA AND PERIPHERAL NERVE
- A. Novikoff, N. Quintana, H. Villaverde, Regina Forschirm
- Biology, ChemistryJournal of Cell Biology
- 1 June 1966
It is considered likely that diffusion artifacts account for the nucleoside phosphatase reaction product frequently found along the outer surfaces of myelinated fibers and within vacuoles at the Schwann cell surfaces of these fibers.
STUDIES ON MICROPEROXISOMES V. ARE MICROPEROXISOMES UBIQUITOUS IN MAMMALIAN CELLS?
- A. Novikoff, P. Novikoff, C. Davis, N. Quintana
- BiologyJournal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry
- 1 August 1973
A variety of mammalian cell types has been studied by electron microscopy following incubation in a 3,3'-diaminobenzidine medium and it is presumed that molecular interchange occurs between these two organelles.
