Tree diversity and distribution in undisturbed and human-impacted sites of tropical wet evergreen forest in southern Western Ghats, India
- N. Parthasarathy
- Environmental ScienceBiodiversity and Conservation
- 1 October 1999
Variation in the kind and richness of species and their abundance is related to human interference and the need for forest conservation is emphasized.
Averting biodiversity collapse in tropical forest protected areas
- W. Laurance, D. C. Useche, F. Zamzani
- Environmental ScienceNature
- 13 September 2012
These findings suggest that tropical protected areas are often intimately linked ecologically to their surrounding habitats, and that a failure to stem broad-scale loss and degradation of such habitats could sharply increase the likelihood of serious biodiversity declines.
A Standard Protocol for Liana Censuses 1
- Jeffrey J. Gerwing, S. Schnitzer, Duncan W. Thomas
- Environmental Science
- 1 March 2006
This article seeks to increase uniformity in liana inventories by providing specific recommendations for the determination of which taxa to include, the location of diameter measurement points on individual stems, the setting of minimum stem diameter cutoffs, the treatment of multiple-stemmed and rooted clonal groups, and the measurement of noncylindrical stems.
Biodiversity inventory of trees in a large-scale permanent plot of tropical evergreen forest at Varagalaiar, Anamalais, Western Ghats, India
- N. Ayyappan, N. Parthasarathy
- Environmental ScienceBiodiversity and Conservation
- 1 November 1999
The results of the first census of trees in the 30 ha plot at Varagalaiar, Anamalais, Western Ghats are given to elucidate the behaviour of the individual species and the population dynamics of the tree flora and will be useful for forest conservation and management.
Changes in forest composition and structure in three sites of tropical evergreen forest around Sengaltheri, Western Ghats
- N. Parthasarathy, Sálim Ali
- Environmental Science
- 2001
Changes in woody species composition, abundance and forest stand structure were investigated in three sites of tropical wet evergreen forest around Sengaltheri in Kalakad–Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve,…
Plant biodiversity inventory and conservation of two tropical dry evergreen forests on the Coromandel coast, south India
- N. Parthasarathy, R. Karthikeyan
- Environmental ScienceBiodiversity and Conservation
- 1 August 1997
Species richness, density, diversity and diversity indices decreased with increasing girth threshold, and the need for conservation is emphasized.

Attenuated tree species diversity in human-impacted tropical evergreen forest sites at Kolli hills, Eastern Ghats, India
- C. Chittibabu, N. Parthasarathy
- Environmental ScienceBiodiversity and Conservation
- 1 November 2000
Evidently, the reduction in species richness, basal area and tree density in disturbed sites, with 57.6% of species rarity of this tropical evergreen forest, in secluded patches of Kolli hills, underlines conservation need to prevent species loss.
