An earthworm, Lumbricus rubellus, produces alkaline trypsin-like proteases that are greater than trypsins in their stability and strong tolerance to organic solvents, and cDNAs encoding strong fibrinolytic proteases were cloned and sequenced to study their stability-structure relationship.
