A review of regulation mechanisms of metazoan plankton in riverine ecosystems: aquatic habitat versus biota
- N. Lair
- Environmental Science
- 1 June 2006
Examination of the distribution of plankton populations, in the Middle Loire and in other rivers, showed that the flow regime, which plays a central role in organizing river habitats, explains the presence/absence of these fast-growing organisms.
The distribution of macroinvertebrate assemblages in a reach of the River Allier (France), in relation to riverbed characteristics
- A. Beauger, N. Lair, P. Reyes-Marchant, Jean-Luc Peiry
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 17 June 2006
Macroinvertebrate assemblages of large alluvial streams are poorly documented. This study identified the physical characteristics affecting the macroinvertebrates community distribution in a large…
The potamoplankton of the Middle Loire and the role of the ’moving littoral‘ in downstream transfer of algae and rotifers
- N. Lair, P. Reyes-Marchant
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 1 October 1997
The seasonal succession of the potamoplankton of the Middel Loire was studied fortnightly from June to October 1995, a period of low water flow, to deduce that inoculation points were located in areas which could be as short as a hundred meters, responsible for the large variations in plankton density observed between years.
A PRELIMINARY ECOSYSTEM MODEL OF A EUTROPHIC LAKE (LAKE AYDAT, FRANCE)

Effects of invertebrate predation on the seasonal succession of a zooplankton community: a two year study in Lake Aydat, France
- N. Lair
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 1 June 1990
It is hypothesized that adults of Acanthodiaptomus denticornis, which consume large ciliates in this lake, contribute to the rotifer decline at the end of summer and the interactions between invertebrate predators and their preys are reflected in quantitative changes in community dynamics.
Impact of agricultural practices on a small headwater stream: terrestrial and aquatic characteristics and self-purifying processes
- Véronique de Crespin de Billy, P. Reyes-Marchant, N. Lair, Bernard Valadas
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 1 March 2000
The objective of this work was to study the drainage basin of a small crater lake whose short tributary runs through pastureland and ponds. The catchment was separated into four morphological units…
Factors related to autotrophic potamoplankton, heterotrophic protists and micrometazoan abundance, at two sites in a lowland temperate river during low water flow
- N. Lair, V. Jacquet, P. Reyes-Marchant
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 1 March 1999
The potamoplankton of the Middle Loire was studied every two weeks from June to October 1997, a period of low water flow, confirming that lowland rivers support significant phytoplankton production.
Grazing and assimilation rates of natural populations of planktonic cladocerans in a eutrophic lake
- N. Lair
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 1 June 1991
The filtering rates of 14 carbon-labelled Chlamydomonas sp. by 4 dominant species of Cladocera were studied in eutrophic Lake Aydat. The mean individual filtering rates were 364, 399, 403 and 408 µl…
Food and feeding behaviour of roach (Rutilus rutilus, Linné 1758) juveniles in relation to morphological change
- P. Reyes-Marchant, Arielle Cravinho, N. Lair
- Biology
- 1 August 1992
To study trophic relationships between O+ roach and available food in Lake Aydat morphological changes and feeding behaviour were studied in roach fry, five ontogenic stages were distinguished according to their morphological development.
Abiotic vs. Biotic Factors: Lessons Drawn From Rotifers in the Middle Loire,a Meandering River Monitored From 1995 to 2002, During Low Flow Periods
- N. Lair
- Environmental ScienceHydrobiologia
- 2005
The numbers of rotifers in large rivers never achieve the abundances observed in eutrophic lakes. The adverse conditions of the current have conduct biologists to establish links between particular…
