Induction of AIDS in rhesus monkeys by molecularly cloned simian immunodeficiency virus.
TLDR
An infectious molecular clone of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) was identified that induces AIDS in common rhesus monkeys in a time frame suitable for laboratory investigation and defines a system for molecular dissection of the determinants of AIDS pathogenesis.
Isolation of T-cell tropic HTLV-III-like retrovirus from macaques.
TLDR
The isolation of a T-cell tropic retrovirus from three immunodeficient macaques and one macaque with lymphoma is described, and it is indicated that it is related to the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome in humans.
Induction of AIDS-like disease in macaque monkeys with T-cell tropic retrovirus STLV-III.
TLDR
The data show that an immunodeficiency syndrome can be produced experimentally in a nonhuman primate by an agent from the HTLV-III/LAV group of retroviruses, and the STLV- III-macaque system will provide a useful model for the study of antiviral agents and vaccine development for human AIDS.
Attenuation of colitis in the cotton-top tamarin by anti-alpha 4 integrin monoclonal antibody.
TLDR
The studies using a model of spontaneous colitis in the CTT demonstrate the feasibility of modulation of leukocyte-vascular adhesion and/or other integrin-mediated events possibly including T cell aggregation and T cell-stromal interactions, as well as lymphocyte homing.
Gallbladder mucocele in dogs: 30 cases (2000-2002).
TLDR
Results suggest that cholecystectomy is an effective treatment for gallbladder mucocele, and although perioperative mortality rate is high, prognosis after discharge from the hospital is excellent.
Macrophage-tropic variants of SIV are associated with specific AIDS-related lesions but are not essential for the development of AIDS.
TLDR
The results indicate that AIDS and death can occur without obvious involvement of macrophage infection, however the presence ofmacrophage-tropic viral strains appears to influence the disease course and disease manifestations.
Vaccine protection against simian immunodeficiency virus infection.
TLDR
Results indicate that vaccination with inactivated whole virus can protect macaques against challenge with live SIV, and provide hope that vaccine protection against human AIDS virus infection may be possible.
A new type D retrovirus isolated from macaques with an immunodeficiency syndrome.
TLDR
A new type D retrovirus was isolated from two Macaca cyclopis with the recently described acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, related to, but distinct from, Mason-Pfizer monkey virus, a type D Retrovirus previously isolated from a mammary tumor of a rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta).
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in a colony of macaque monkeys.
TLDR
The similarity of this syndrome in macaques to human acquired immunodeficiency syndrome suggests that it may provide an important model for studying the human syndrome.
