Molecular genetic analysis revealed a polymorphism for the Md-Exp7 gene that controls the biosynthesis of expansin in wild species of the genus Malus. The characteristics of callogenesis and regeneration during in vitro culturing of anthers of fruit and berry plants are revealed. The optimal culturing conditions are determined and the combinations of phytohormones in nutrient media providing a high percentage yield of calli and production of regenerant plants are found.
On the basis of the artificial freezing method, the potential of low-temperature resistance of more than 30 domestic- and foreign-bred scab-immune apple varieties is revealed and the most resistant genotypes for production are recommended.
