A colleague has suggested that during the first world war, volunteer nurses - who were untrained but worked in hospitals - were distinguished from the trained nurses by giving the trained nurses the title of 'staff'.
Regarding Marc Cornock's column on unofficial rule bending (reflections November 2), I am glad I work in a hospital with an electronic drug prescribing and administration facility.
I would like to reassure Stephanie Theobald (letters June 28) that clinicians are involved in building the software programs for the national electronic patient record. I have volunteered to assist and more clinicians are needed.
