The preparation of hair for the determination of elements is a critical component of the analysis procedure. Open-beaker, closedvessel microwave, and flowthrough microwave digestion are methods that have been used for sample preparation and are discussed. A new digestion method for use with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been… (More)
The chemical taxonomic relationship of microorganisms has been studied through the hydrocarbon fraction of their chemical constituents. The diagenesis and biological transformations of some hydrocarbons in sediments is suggested, as a result of this information.
Chemical analyses have been made of a number of plant species in order to assess their suitability as renewable sources of hydrocarbon-like photosynthetic products. Yields of rubber and wax, glycerides, isoprenoids, and other terpenoids were estimated. Individual sterols were identified in latex from some species.
A Planck law relationship between absorption and emission spectra is used to compute the fluorescence spectra of some photosynthetic systems from their absorption spectra. Calculated luminescence spectra of purple bacteria agree well but not perfectly with published experimental spectra. Application of the Planck law relation to published activation spectra… (More)
