BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Studies on post-stroke seizures have produced conflicting results. Our study aim was to further elucidate the incidence and predictive factors of early post-stroke seizures (ES) and their relationship with outcome. METHODS relevant clinical data were prospectively collected in 2,053 patients with acute stroke admitted to the Stroke(More)
We collected two clinically matched samples of patients, one sample affected by migraine with aura the other by migraine without aura, to investigate the genetic determination of these conditions. A maternal and X-linked transmission for both these diseases was considered unlikely after pedigree analysis. Classical segregation analysis indicated a likely(More)
Stroke is one of the most frequent causes of acute symptomatic status epilepticus. The aim of this study was to investigate the electroclinical features of status epilepticus in acute ischemic stroke. Nine consecutively admitted patients with status epilepticus during ischemic stroke were examined: five of them had convulsive unilateral or generalized(More)
Economy class stroke syndrome consists of ischemic stroke due to paradoxical embolism through patent foramen ovale after a long flight. Few cases have been described in the literature to date. The treatment choice could be tricky. We present the case of a 65-year-old woman, admitted for submassive pulmonary embolism after a long flight, that presented a(More)
We report two patients who developed focal abnormalities on MRI after partial status epilepticus. Maximum radiological modification occurred in the area of maximal epileptic discharge. Subsequent MRI failed to demonstrate persistent abnormalities. These transient abnormalities on MRI could be an expression of cerebral edema caused by focal epileptic status.(More)
Incidence of neuroepithelial Primary Brain Tumors (nPBT) varies, ranging from 7.3 to 11.6 cases/100,000/year across Europe. We present incidence and survival of nPBT in the Emilia-Romagna region (ER), Italy. This study is the largest in Southern Europe. Specialists in neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, oncology, radiotherapy, genetics, and pathology(More)
Fibrin rich of platelets (PRF®) of Choukroun represents a new step in the therapeutic concept of platelet gel with a simplified processing and biochemical changes little artificial. A valid method of preparation of the PRF must effectively separate the plates by erythrocytes and concentrate without damaging or lysing the plates themselves. In this study the(More)

A 79-year-old Caucasian man was referred to us for evaluation of asymptomatic, widespread, purpuric macules and plaques that had first appeared on his legs three months earlier. One year before, he had been diagnosed with stage IIIB myasthenia gravis (according to Osserman’s classification). He had initially been treated with prednisone and pyridostigmine,(More)
Different techniques for the determination of total tin in beverages and canned foods by atomic spectrometry were compared. The performance characteristics of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), hydride generation-inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (HG-ICP-AES), electrothermal atomisation-atomic absorption(More)
