The Semantic Web: The Roles of XML and RDF
It is argued that a further representation and inference layer is needed on top of the Web's current layers, and to establish such a layer, a general method for encoding ontology representation languages into RDF/RDF schema is proposed.
Ontobroker: Ontology Based Access to Distributed and Semi-Structured Information
Ontobroker is developed which uses formal ontologies to extract, reason, and generate metadata in the WWW, and the generation of RDF descriptions enables the exploitation of the ontological information in RDF-based applications.
OIL in a Nutshell
- D. Fensel, I. Horrocks, F. V. Harmelen, S. Decker, Michael Erdmann, M. Klein
- Computer ScienceInternational Conference Knowledge Engineering…
- 2 October 2000
This work will present OIL, which is a proposal for a joint standard for specifying and exchanging ontologies, based on existing proposals such as OKBC, XOL and RDF schema, enriching them with necessary features for expressing ontologies.
OntoEdit: Collaborative Ontology Development for the Semantic Web
- York Sure-Vetter, Michael Erdmann, J. Angele, Steffen Staab, R. Studer, Dirk Wenke
- Computer ScienceInternational Workshop on the Semantic Web
- 9 June 2002
This paper focuses on collaborative development of ontologies with OntoEdit which is guided by a comprehensive methodology.
Ontobroker: The Very High Idea
Ontobroker consists of a number of languages and tools that enhance query access and inference service of the WWW that are based on the use of ontologies, and can be achieved without requiring to change the semiformal nature of web documents.
The Ontology Inference Layer OIL
This paper presents OIL which is a proposal for a joint standard for specifying and exchanging ontologies, based on existing proposals such as OKBC, XOL and RDF, and enriches them with necessary features for expressing rich ontologies.
The NeOn Ontology Engineering Toolkit
The NeOn project aims at advancing the state of the art in using ontologies for large-scale semantic applications by providing an infrastructure for networked ontology management and engineering capable of suiting the community’s needs, and features methods and tools for managing knowledge that is distributed, heterogeneous, contextualized, and developed collaboratively.

On2broker: Semantic-Based Access to Information Sources at the WWW
The general architecture and main components of On2broker are discussed and the use of ontologies to make explicit the semantics of web pages is provided.
