Cryopreservation of ovarian tissue is known to affect follicular survival. Several variables may be responsible for this. Little attention has focused on the effect of the size of the fragment to be cryopreserved. This study was conducted to assess the effect of the size of the tissue on follicular histology after freezing with 1,2-propanediol. Histological(More)
–The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect aerobic exercise training on fat pad mass, adipocyte size, leptin release and insulin sensitivity in rats fed with high fat-palatable diet. Twenty-four male Wistar rats (250-260g) were divided into four groups: sedentary control (CTR/SD), trained control (CTR/TR), obese sedentary (OB/SD) and obese trained(More)
Left ventricular cavity (LVC) enlargement during SPET dipyridamole 201Tl myocardial perfusion imaging studies is a proven marker of severity of coronary artery disease. Nevertheless, the influence of the extent of myocardial infarct and ischaemia on the degree of LVC enlargement both at rest and with dipyridamole has not been clearly analysed. One hundred(More)
BACKGROUND/AIMS Essential fatty acids are important in maintaining skin function and their deficiency is associated with scali-ness and increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This can be one of the pathogenic processes implicated in atopic dermatitis (AD). Several studies have assessed the value of essential fatty acid-enriched diets in AD but the(More)
Although the increased risk of cardiac complications in surgical patients with diminished left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is well-established, this method has been supplanted in recent years by assessment of ischaemic burden using myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). This study was conducted to determine if MPI and LVEF determination provide(More)
Cantrell's pentalogy is a very rare congenital anomaly. The hallmark of this condition is the presence of ectopia cordis and an abdominal wall defect. Its association with craniorachischisis is even more infrequent with just a few cases reported in the literature. The authors describe a case of a prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of Cantrell's pentalogy with(More)
We report a 4-year-old Caucasian girl with congenital skin lesions consisting of hyperpigmented macules that were bilateral and roughly symmetrical, covered with terminal hair and located on the scapular regions, shoulders, and arms. A cutaneous biopsy specimen showed the histologic pattern of Becker nevus. We discuss the classification of this case in the(More)
The efficacy of truncal vagotomy combined with pyloroplasty has been studied in 56 patients, divided into the following groups: Group I-29 patients submitted to bilateral truncal vagotomy (BTV) and pyloroplasty, as the method of treatment to solve the problem of perforated duodenal ulcer (initial and retrospective phase of study). Group II-With 11 patients,(More)
