Nicotine induces profound behavioral responses in the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. We tested the effect of a broad range of concentrations of nicotine (from 0.001 mM to 30 mM in nematode growth medium) on C. elegans locomotor behavior. We also followed the time-course influence on the sensitivity of C. elegans to nicotine (from 0 min to 300 min).(More)
We report on a search for electro-magnetic and/or hadronic showers (cascades) induced by high energy neutrinos in the data collected with the AMANDA II detector during the year 2000. The observed event rates are consistent with the expectations for atmospheric neutrinos and muons. We place upper limits on a diffuse flux of extraterrestrial electron, tau and(More)
Measurements of cross sections of inelastic and diffractive processes in proton–proton collisions at LHC energies were carried out with the ALICE detector. The fractions of diffractive processes in inelastic collisions were determined from a study of gaps in charged particle pseudorapidity distributions: for single diffraction (diffractive mass MX < 200(More)
Evidence for an extraterrestrial flux of high-energy neutrinos has now been found in multiple searches with the IceCube detector. The first solid evidence was provided by a search for neutrino events with deposited energies 30  TeV and interaction vertices inside the instrumented volume. Recent analyses suggest that the extraterrestrial flux extends to(More)

The measurement of primary π±, K±, p and p production at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.5) in proton–proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV performed with a large ion collider experiment at the large hadron collider (LHC) is reported. Particle identification is performed using the specific ionisation energy-loss and time-of-flight information, the ringimaging Cherenkov(More)
