After 70 years with no confirmed autochthonous cases of dengue fever in Japan, 19 cases were reported during August-September 2014. Dengue virus serotype 1 was detected in 18 patients. Phylogenetic analysis of the envelope protein genome sequence from 3 patients revealed 100% identity with the strain from the first patient (2014) in Japan.
A human colon carcinoma cell line KM12-LX, expressing low levels of monoclonal antibody (mAb) FH6 epitope, was transfected with alpha 1,3-fucosyltransferase VI cDNA. Clonal populations with high or intermediate expression levels of the mRNA, shown by RT-PCR (FT6hi and FT6in cells, respectively) were obtained. FT6hi cells were found to express both mAb FH6(More)
A 36-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a rapidly growing lump in her left breast. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) cytology of the mass revealed many epithelioid cells admixed with multinucleated Langhans-type giant cells, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and stromal cells, leading to a diagnosis of granulomatous mastitis. This report describes the(More)
As a long-term complication after undergoing a cystenterostomy for a congenital dilatation of the bile duct, liver cirrhosis due to stenosis of the anastomosis or reflux cholangitis has been reported in conjunction with subsequent portal hypertension. We treated a 48-year-old Japanese woman who developed both portal hypertension and pancytopenia after(More)
Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a systemic illness usually caused in the setting of infection by group A Streptococcus (GAS). The primary infections are often invasive infections of the respiratory tract or necrotizing infections of the skin and soft tissue, but some infections occur without relevant focus. GAS vaginitis is a rare condition(More)
Adhesion of human colon carcinoma variant cell lines expressing different levels of the cell surface sialyl Lewis X (sLe) antigen to frozen sections of mouse liver was examined. KM12-HX cells that bound the monoclonal antibody (mAb) FH6 (anti-sLe) and thus expressed a high level of sLe demonstrated a greater degree of adhesion to liver sections than their(More)
Twenty four reference strains (serotype a-h) belonging to the mutans group of streptococci were compared for DNA fragment patterns of rDNA after treatment with Hind III. It was shown that Streptococcus cricetus (serotype a), S. rattus (serotype b), and S. downei (serotype h) reveals comparatively homogeneous patterns while S. mutans (serotype c, e and f)(More)
Most mediastinal abscesses result from infections after thoracotomy, esophageal perforation or pene- trating chest trauma. This disease is rarely caused by closed blunt chest trauma. All previously reported such cases after closed blunt chest trauma presented with hematoma and sternal osteomyelitis resulting from sternal fracture. Here we report a(More)
A 46-year-old woman presented with lower abdominal pain, diarrhea and irregular vaginal bleeding persisting for the past 2 months. She had a history of cervical cancer treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy 6 years previously, which was successful. Magnetic resonance imaging with T2-weighted and diffusion images showed a high intensity area in the(More)
