Interleukin (IL)-10 is a pleiotropic cytokine with potent inhibitory effects towards T(H)-1 cells. IL-10 inhibits secretion of IL-2 and interferon (IFN)gamma by T cells and downregulates major histocompatibility complex antigens. A variety of tumor cells secrete IL-10, which can inhibit growth of tumor-specific cytotoxic T cells. IL-10 expression has also(More)
Extracellular potassium activity before and after coronary occlusion was measured in the canine heart by means of potassium-selective surface electrodes. In the ischaemic myocardium potassium activity rapidly increased from a preocclusion value of 3.2 +/- 0.3 mmol.litre-1 to 10 +/- 0.6 mmol.litre-1 within the first 5 min and to about 11.3 +/- 0.5(More)
In preparing this document the Authors aimed to pool current information on canine and feline mast cell disease. The information was gathered from international studies and a emphasis was placed on material and opinion with a strong evidence base. We intend it to form the basis of our understanding in this disease at the current time and we anticipate that(More)
Wolfe has suggested that there is a correlation between the pattern of the breast parenchyma and the risk of a carcinoma. This has been confirmed by some authors and denied by others. Our investigations of 905 cases could not confirm Wolfe's thesis and suggested his results were due to selection of cases. Our findings confirm the opinion expressed several(More)

This prospective study aimed to record the toxicity profile of a dose-intensifying simultaneous chemotherapy (DISC) protocol for lymphoma in dogs. Remission rates and the duration of the protocol were also evaluated. Twenty-one dogs were studied. Diagnosis was based on cytological or histological assessments. The DISC protocol is a 13-week maintenance-free(More)
This study evaluated efficacy and side effects of masitinib in canine epitheliotropic lymphoma. Complete remission occurred in 2 of 10 dogs and lasted for median 85 days. Five dogs went into partial remission for median 60.5 days. Three pretreated dogs did not respond to therapy. Side effects occurred in six dogs and were mostly mild to moderate.(More)
This study describes clinical aspects, treatment, and survival times of 52 dogs with hemangiosarcoma of the spleen, presented at the Department of Veterinary Surgery, University of Munich, Germany. Depending on the dissemination of the disease the dogs were assigned to three clinical stages: 10 dogs were in stage I (tumor confined to the spleen without(More)
Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) that specifically target cKIT represent a therapeutic approach for non-resectable canine mast cell tumours (MCTs) grade II/III. The therapeutic benefit of TKIs has been investigated in other tumours based on clinical response rates and identification of gain-of-function mutations. In the present study, cKIT expression in 14(More)
