The quantitative changes in constituents of rice straw during different stages of growth of the fungus Pleurotus flabellatus were investigated. Cellulose, hemicellulose(s), lignin, total carbon and total nitrogen showed a continuous decrease from inoculation until the end of fruit body harvesting, whereas free sugars, total ash and C/N ratio increased. As(More)
The potentiality of apple cell cultures to synthesize not only higher quantities of lipids than apple fruit but also different classes of lipids is noted. Total lipid was 15-fold higher in apple callus than in the original tissue. On callusing, linoleic acid decreased from 66% to 14%, while linolenic acid showed a very large increase from 0.9% to 44%.(More)
Polyphenoloxidase from mango(Mangifera indica) peel was purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulphate fractionation, chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex and gel filtration of Sephadex G-200. The enzyme had an apparent molecular weight of 136,000. Its pH and temperature optimum were 5.4 and 50‡C, respectively. The enzyme possessed catecholase activity and was(More)
Thin layer chromatographic separation of chloroform-methanol extracts of mango on silica gel revealed a fluorescent substance in mango peel and pulp. The compound had fluorescence spectrum similar to that of lipofuscin, the age pigment of animal tissues and was found to be water insoluble and stable to ultraviolet irradiation. The fluorescent material(More)
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy is seldom associated with significant vitamin K deficiency. We report a case of a 16-year-old primigravid patient at 24 weeks and 3 days of gestation who presented with pruritus, hematuria, and preterm labor. Laboratory work-up showed severe coagulopathy with Prothrombin Time (PT) of 117.8 seconds, International(More)
OBJECTIVE To investigate dynamic changes in myometrial thickness during the third stage of labor. METHODS Myometrial thickness was measured using ultrasound at one-minute time intervals during the third stage of labor in the mid-region of the upper and lower uterine segments in 151 patients including: women with a long third stage of labor (n = 30),(More)
