Choroid plexus (CP) which is responsible for the inflammatory mediators including nitric oxide (NO) are thought to play a crucial role in the process of bacterial meningitis. The present study investigated the mechanisms regulating inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in the choroid plexus epithelium (CPe) in mice. Initially, the expression of(More)
Dynamic range (DR) of cochlear implant electrodes and speech recognition scores (SRS) were chronologically studied in 23 post-lingually deaf subjects over a period of one year. DR significantly increased over one year (ANOVA, p = 0.03). When DR was compared among three groups of electrodes which were located in the inferior, ascending and superior segments(More)
Distribution density of the taste disks of the fungiform papillae in the frog tongue was larger at the proximal portion than at the apical and middle portions. The number of myelinated afferent nerve fibres and taste cells per cm2 area of the tongue increased in the order of proximal greater than middle greater than apical portion. The amplitudes of(More)
1. Regional changes in the diameter of single myelinated afferent nerve fibres innervating the taste disc of the fungiform papillae on the bullfrog tongue were investigated morphologically and functionally. 2. The diameter of myelinated afferents in the medial lingual branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve averaged 8.4 microns at the proximal end of the(More)
The mean diameter of myelinated afferent fibers from the taste disk located on the frog tongue was 5.5 micrometers within the fungiform papillae and increased at a rate of 0.8 micrometers/cm length of fibers. A gradual increase in conduction velocity of single afferent fibers from the taste disk was confirmed electrophysiologically.
