Abusing parents are not always criminals. Deficient rearing during childhood deprived them of ego controls that could prevent them from injuring their children as projections of their own anger. Physical or sexual abuse of children is a psychopathic situation wherein both the abused child and the problem parent require collateral therapy with the eventual aim of rehabilitating the family by reinstating the child. Child abuse is perpetrated mainly by mothers of young children as a results of interaction of their own deficient personalities, ambient circumstances, and problems innate in the children. Abuse situations require assessment and handling of legal, medical, social and psychiatric aspects for the mother, the child, and the father.
