Friedelin, epifriedelinol, beta-amyrin, beta-sitosterol, beta-sitosterol 3-beta-D-glucopyranoside, and naringin were isolated from the dried rhizome of Drynaria quercifolia. The methanol extract showed broad and concentration-dependent antibacterial activity.
Phytochemical investigation of the various extracts of the leaves of Begonia malabarica Lam. (Begoniaceae) resulted in the isolation and identification of six known compounds, viz. friedelin, epi-friedelinol, beta-sitosterol, luteolin, quercetin and beta-sitosterol-3-beta-D-glucopyranoside. The aqueous and organic solvent extracts were also tested against… (More)
Seeds of Teramnus labialis (L.) Spreng. (Fabaceae), used as food by Malayali tribals in the Kollihills of Salem District, Tamil Nadu in South India, were investigated for their nutritional value. These seeds were analyzed for proximate composition, total (true) seed proteins, seed protein fractions, amino acid composition, fatty acid composition, minerals… (More)
Leaves of Phyllanthus singampattiana, locally known as Aathuchadai by the Kanis of Tamil Nadu in India is consumed for curing jaundice, diarrhea and dysentery. Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavones and triterpenes in all the solvent extracts, coumarins and steroids in hexane and chloroform extracts, quinine, alkaloids, lignins… (More)
The aqueous, methanol, chloroform and hexane extracts of Swertia corymbosa were tested (in vitro) for their antimicrobial efficiency. Maximum inhibitory activity was noticed against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi.
Phytochemical analysis of the leaves from Indian Suregada angustifolia (Baill. ex Muell. Arg.) Airy Shaw (Euphorbiaceae) resulted in the isolation and identification of six known compounds, viz. friedelin, epi-friedelinol, n-octacosanol, alpha-amyrin, beta-sitosterol and beta-sitosterol-3-beta-D-glucopyranoside. Aqueous (room temperature, boiled and… (More)
From the stems of Indigofera longeracemosa, a novel abietane diterpenoid, indigoferabietone was isolated. The structure was established by spectral techniques. The inhibitory activity of indigoferabietone (1) tested against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Candida albicans, and the antibacterial activity tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris,… (More)
The major objectives of the current study were (i) to prepare carvedilol-loaded buccal tablets by direct compression technique, and (ii) to study the influence of low and high proportions of sodium carboxy methylcellulose (SCMC) in conjunction with the corresponding high and low proportions of sodium alginate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP-K-30), carbopol… (More)
The methanol extract of Bridelia crenulata stem bark (50-1.5625 mg/ml) and its isolated luteoforol (2-0.25 mg/ml) showed concentration-dependent inhibiting activity against all 10 tested bacteria.
A novel xanthene, 3-isopropyl-9a-methyl-1,2,4a,9a-tetrahydroxanthene (1), was isolated from the stem of Indigofera longeracemosa.
