DNA Methylation as a Biomarker for Cardiovascular Disease Risk
The findings indicate that elevated, not decreased, PBL DNA methylation is positively associated with prevalence of CVD/predisposing conditions and obesity in Singapore Chinese.

Using phylogenetic analysis and pairwise comparison of 670 complete hepatitis B virus genomes, it is demonstrated that nucleotide divergence greater than 7.5% can be used to separate strains into genotypes A–H andSerological subtype deduced from the S region and mutations/variations within the basic core promoter/precore region allowed genotyping of HBV with 97% sensitivity and 99% specificity.
A novel single nucleotide polymorphism within the 5' tandem repeat polymorphism of the thymidylate synthase gene abolishes USF-1 binding and alters transcriptional activity.
A novel G-->C single nucleotide polymorphism in the second repeat of 3R alleles within the USF consensus element that alters the ability of USF proteins to bind and thus alters the transcriptional activation of TS gene constructs bearing this genotype is identified.
Breast cancer and hormone replacement therapy: collaborative reanalysis of data from 51 epidemiological studies of 52 705 women with breast cancer and 108 411 women without breast cancer
Synergism of alcohol, diabetes, and viral hepatitis on the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma in blacks and whites in the U.S.
Heavy alcohol consumption, viral hepatitis, and diabetes are risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, to the authors' knowledge, the information concerning their interaction effect…
Isothiocyanates, glutathione S-transferase M1 and T1 polymorphisms, and lung-cancer risk: a prospective study of men in Shanghai, China
Environmental factors and risk for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphism and breast cancer risk among Chinese women in Singapore.
The findings support experimental data implicating ACE and angiotensin II in breast cancer, and suggest that the renin-angiotens in system may serve as a therapeutic target for breast cancer treatment and prevention.
Dietary isothiocyanates, glutathione S-transferase polymorphisms and colorectal cancer risk in the Singapore Chinese Health Study.

The results are compatible with the hypothesis that ITCs from cruciferous vegetables modify risk of colorectal cancer in individuals with low GST activity, and this gene-diet interaction may be important in studies evaluating the effect of risk-enhancing compounds in the Colorectum.
