Levels of Cd recorded in some freshwater bodies in Sri Lanka (e.g. 0.2 mg L−1) may be detrimental to the young stages of D. melanostictus and delayed metamorphosis and retarded swimming were observed.
Lethal and sub-lethal effects on the Asian common toad Duttaphrynus melanostictus from exposure to hexavalent chromium.
A new species of the pseudoscorpion genus Megachernes (Pseudoscorpiones: Chernetidae) associated with a threatened Sri Lankan rainforest rodent, with a review of host associations of Megachernes
The first Sri Lankan species of the Old World pseudoscorpion genus Megachernes is described from the fur of an endemic, threatened Sri Lanka mouse, Mus mayori pococki from the Kanneliya rainforest, and Chiridiochernes is transferred to Lamprochernetinae as the spermathecae are T-shaped, the sole diagnostic feature of the subfamily.
Effects of diazinon on larvae of the Asian common toad (Bufo melanostictus, Schneider 1799)

- BiologyEnvironmental toxicology and chemistry
- 1 November 2008
This investigation provides the first empirical evidence of the negative effects of diazinon on the survival, growth and activity of B. melanostictus, and highlights the need to consider important nontarget groups when recommending safe levels of pesticide application.
Impact of habitat disturbance on the distribution of endemic species of small mammals and birds in a tropical rain forest in Sri Lanka
The findings suggest that the forest-dwelling endemic species of both small mammal and bird encounter difficulties in tolerating modified landscapes, whilst other taxa are less affected, which highlights the vulnerability of endemic species to forest conversion.
The Impact of Earnings Quality on the Stock Returns of Listed Manufacturing Companies in the Colombo Stock Exchange
The earnings of a company is a very important indicator of firm performance, since it communicates information about the value creating ability of the company to its stakeholders. It is also…
Chlorpyrifos-induced Histopathological Alterations in Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Schneider 1799) Tadpoles: Evidence from Empirical Trials
- M. Bandara, M. Wijesinghe, W. Ratnasooriya, A. A. Priyani
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 20 October 2012
The degree of damage in surviving larvae in a week following the final exposure was lower than that observed during the exposure, probably indicating recovery or resistance, and emphasize the need to investigate possible sublethal damage induced by pesticides in amphibians inhabiting agricultural habitats.
Distribution of five toxic heavy metals in biotic and abiotic constituents of the Negombo Lagoon, Sri Lanka
The presence of toxic metals in water has become a matter of national concern. This situation is potentially more dangerous when it occurs in lagoons and estuaries which are both highly productive…
Toxic effects of Carbofuran on Duttaphrynus Melanostictus Larvae
The observed harmful effects induced by carbofuran in the present study suggest that D. melanostictus populations may face detrimental consequences as a result of exposure to this pesticide.

The findings of the present study highlight the need to recognize the potential risk that agrochemicals pose to amphibians inhabiting agricultural landscapes in Sri Lanka and other Asian countries.
