Sediment properties and bacterial community in burrows of the ghost shrimp Pestarella tyrrhena (Decapoda: Thalassinidea)
TLDR
Molecular fingerprints of the bacterial communities showed that the bacterial composition of the burrow wall was more similar to the ambient anoxic sediment and showed less seasonal change than the sediment surface, suggesting that burrow walls have distinct properties and should not be considered merely as a simple extension of the sedimentsurface.
Comparative Reproduction Aspects of the Deep-water Shrimps Aristaeomorpha foliacea and Aristeus antennatus (Decapoda, Aristeidae) in the Greek Ionian Sea (Eastern Mediterranean)
TLDR
A slight temporal shift in mating activity, ovarian maturation, and spawning period was observed between species, and the most notable difference was the more pronounced seasonality in reproductive activity of Aristeus antennatus compared to that of A. foliacea.
Information-theory approach to allometric growth of marine organisms
TLDR
Allometric growth was investigated in eight marine species and the ‘best’ model was selected by minimizing the small-sample, bias-corrected form of the Akaike Information Criterion, based on Kullback–Leibler (K-L) information theory and multi-model inference (MMI).
Assessment of distubance in Mediterranean lagoons: An evaluation of methods
TLDR
It is concluded that methods based on size changes of the fauna are more sensitive than those based on relative abundance in assessing disturbance in coastal brackish-water lagoons.
Allometric growth of male secondary sexual characters and dioecy in Parapandalus narval (Decapoda: Pandalidae)
TLDR
Parapandalus narval conforms to the reproductive pattern of tropical pandalids, in which dioecy occurs and does not participate in sex reversal, as evidenced by morphometric measures.
A Baseline Study on Benthic Species Distribution in Two Neighbouring Gulfs, With and Without Access to Bottom Trawling
. An extensive survey of the benthic fauna was carried out at two neighbouring regions of the Aegean Sea, one normally trawled and the other closed to trawlers. Benthic samples were collected from
POPULATION STRUCTURE AND REPRODUCTION OF THE DEEP-WATER SHRIMP PLESIONIKA MARTIA (DECAPODA: PANDALIDAE) FROM THE EASTERN IONIAN SEA
TLDR
The overall yearly and the monthly sex ratio were in favor of females except during winter, when the two sexes were equally represented, and carapace length–wet weight relationships showed negative allometry, for both males and females.
Spatial distribution, abundance and habitat use of the protected fan mussel Pinna nobilis in Souda Bay, Crete
TLDR
The spatial distribution and abundance of the endangered fan mussel Pinna nobilis was investigated in Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, and the total abundance was estimated as 130 900 individuals with a 95% confidence interval of 100 600 to 170 400 individuals.
