Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)
There continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to measure autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes, so it is important to update guidelines for monitoring autophagic activity in different organisms. Expand
Methanolic extract of Pereskia bleo (Kunth) DC. (Cactaceae) induces apoptosis in breast carcinoma, T47-D cell line.
The results from this study strongly suggest that the methanol extract of Pereskia bleo may contain bioactive compound(s) that caused breast carcinoma, T-47D cell death by apoptosis mechanism via the activation of caspase-3 and c-myc pathways. Expand
Programmed Cell Death Pathways and Current Antitumor Targets
This review aims to discuss the most recent antitumor strategies targeting the apoptosis and autophagy signaling pathways and the latest outcome of clinical trials of the above drugs. Expand
Cytotoxic, apoptotic and anti-α-glucosidase activities of 3,4-di-O-caffeoyl quinic acid, an antioxidant isolated from the polyphenolic-rich extract of Elephantopus mollis Kunth.
The findings indicate the major role of 3,4-di-O-caffeoyl quinic acid to antioxidant capacities of Elephantopus mollis extracts and is thus a promising non toxic agent in treating cancer and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Expand
Growth arrest and non-apoptotic programmed cell death associated with the up-regulation of c-myc mRNA expression in T-47D breast tumor cells following exposure to Epipremnum pinnatum (L.) Engl.
It is suggested that up-regulation of c-myc mRNA expression may have contributed to the growth arrest and Type II non-apoptotic programmed cell death in the Epipremnum pinnatum (L.) Engl. Expand
Andrographolide and 14-deoxy-11, 12-didehydroandrographolide inhibit cytochrome P450s in HepG2 hepatoma cells.
These diterpenoids are potential CYP3A4 inhibitors and the effects on CYP1A2, CYP2D6, and CYP 3A4 may be clinically significant. Expand

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) kinase plays an important role in regulating cell growth and cell cycle progression in response to cellular signals and many upstream activators and downstream effectors of mTOR are known to be deregulated in various types of cancers. Expand
In vitro evaluation of cytochrome P450 induction and the inhibition potential of mitragynine, a stimulant alkaloid.
Mitragynine was found to induce mRNA and protein expression of CYP1A2 and was consistent with the increased CYP 1A2 enzymatic activity, however, it appeared to be aweak CYP3A4 inducer at the transcriptional level and a weak CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitor. Expand

Immunohistochemical expression of MAP1LC3A and MAP1LC3B protein in breast carcinoma tissues
A significantly higher number of breast cancer tissues were found to express the MAP1 LC3A protein with strong immunoreactivity as compared with the normal tissues, suggesting that MAP1LC3A may play a role in breast cancer development. Expand
