Oil Content and Fatty Acid Composition in Seeds of Three Safflower Species
Seeds of six safflower (C. tinctorius L.) genotypes and 19 accessions of two wild species were analyzed for oil and fatty acid composition. Oil content ranged from 29.20 to 34.00, 20.04 to 30.80 and…
Effect of salinity and drought stresses on growth parameters and essential oil content of Matricaria chamomila.
Photosynthesis under artificial light: the shift in primary and secondary metabolism
- E. Darko, P. Heydarizadeh, B. Schoefs, M. Sabzalian
- Environmental SciencePhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B…

This review uses selected examples to show how LED can mimic natural light to ensure the growth and development of photosynthetic organisms, and how changes in intensity and wavelength can manipulate the plant metabolism with the aim to produce functionalized foods.
Phytoremediation of an aged petroleum contaminated soil using endophyte infected and non-infected grasses.
Epichloe fungal endophytes for grassland ecosystems
The Epichloe fungal endophytes that inhabit grasses have potentially large-scale consequences for macro- and micro-organisms and food chains in agriculture, and investigations have focused on the major agricultural species, tall fescue and perennial ryegrass.
Neotyphodium endophytes trigger salt resistance in tall and meadow fescues
It is concluded that endophyte-infected grasses may thrive better in salinity-stress environments.
Wild safflower species ('Carthamus oxyacanthus' Bieb.): A possible source of drought tolerance for arid environments
Calculated correlation coefficients revealed that geometric mean productivity, stress tolerance index (STI) and Harmonic mean (HM) indices are superior criteria for selecting high-yield genotypes under stress and non-stress conditions.
Genetic variation among populations of wild safflower, Carthamus oxyacanthus analyzed by agro-morphological traits and ISSR markers
- M. Sabzalian, A. Mirlohi, G. Saeidi, M. T. Rabbani
- BiologyGenetic Resources and Crop Evolution
- 28 April 2009
Genetic variation observed among the wild safflower germplasm at the DNA level was higher than the agro-morphological traits, indicating that ISSR is an effective marker system for detecting diversity among saff Lower genotypes and their genetic relationships.
High performance of vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants in a red-blue LED incubator for indoor plant production
- M. Sabzalian, P. Heydarizadeh, B. Schoefs
- BiologyAgronomy for Sustainable Development

The results show that 70/30 % red-blue LED light increased Mentha essential oil yield up to four times along with increases in plant photosynthesis and fresh weight compared with field condition and in incubators and plant growth chambers.
