The purification and amino acid sequences of four Tx2 neurotoxins from the venom of the Brazilian ‘armed’ spider Phoneutria nigriventer (Keys)
Four neurotoxic polypeptides were purified from the venom of the South American ‘armed’ spider Phoneutria nigriventer by gel filtration and reverse phase FPLC and HPLC and had varying sequence identities with other neurotoxins from different spider species and biologically active peptides from scorpions, a sea snail and seeds of Mirabilis jalapa. Purification and amino acid sequences of six Tx3 type neurotoxins from the venom of the Brazilian 'armed' spider Phoneutria nigriventer (Keys).
Six neurotoxic peptides purified from the venom of the spider Phoneutria nigriventer exhibited sequence similarities to one another and to the neurotoxins from the venoms of the spiders Hololena curta and Agelenopsis aperta, which were most evident in the location of the Cys residues. Expand
Characterization of a Kunitz trypsin inhibitor with a single disulfide bridge from seeds of Inga laurina (SW.) Willd.
ILTI was found to be a single polypeptide chain containing 180 amino acids, the sequence of which was clearly homologous to the Kunitz family of serine protease plant protein inhibitors, and it also showed significant similarity to the seed storage proteins, sporamin and miraculin. Expand
Stimulation of fructose transport across the intestinal brush-border membrane by PMA is mediated by GLUT2 and dynamically regulated by protein kinase C.
Perfusion of rat jejunum in vitro with PMA increased fructose transport by 70% compared with control values and was blocked by the protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor chelerythrine and trafficking of GLUT2 to the brush-border membrane correlated with activation of PKC betaII, implying that this isoenzyme is likely to control trafficking. Primary structure of a Kunitz-type trypsin inhibitor from Enterolobium contortisiliquum seeds.
ECTI inhibits trypsin and chymotrypsin in the stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 and also Factor XIIa, plasma kallikrein and plasmin, but not thrombin and Factor Xa. Expand
Isolation and biochemical characterization of a fibrinolytic proteinase from Bothrops leucurus (white-tailed jararaca) snake venom.
In vitro studies revealed that leuc-a dissolves clots made either from purified fibrinogen or from whole blood, and unlike some other venom fibrinolytic metallopeptidases, leuc -a is devoid of hemorrhagic activity when injected (up to 100 microg) subcutaneously into mice. Expand
The purification and amino acid sequence of the lethal neurotoxin Tx1 from the venom of the Brazilian ‘armed’ spider Phoneutria nigriventer
A lethal neurotoxic polypeptide of Mr 8kDa was purified from the venom of the South American ‘armed’ or wandering spider Phoneutria nigriventer by centrifugation, gel filtration on Superose 12, andExpand
Structural and functional characterization of a P-III metalloproteinase, leucurolysin-B, from Bothrops leucurus venom.
The isolation and the structure-function relationship of a P-III snake venom metalloproteinase is reported and the catalytic activity of leuc-B on extracellular matrix proteins could readily lead to loss of capillary integrity resulting in hemorrhage occurring at those sites. Expand
The proteinase inhibitors of plants and micro-organisms
Abstract Recent (post-1972) advances in our knowledge of the proteinase inhibitors of plants and micro-organisms are reviewed. Details of the specificity, occurrence and distribution of theseExpand
A Novel Cytochrome P450 Expressed Primarily in Brain (*)
hct-1 (hippocampal transcript) was detected in a differential screen of a rat hippocampal cDNA library. Expression of hct-1 was enriched in the formation but was also detected in rat liver andExpand
