Negative regulation of Armadillo, a Wingless effector in Drosophila.
It is shown that Armadillo(S10) has escaped from negative regulation by Zeste white-3 kinase, and thus accumulates outside junctions even in the absence of Wingless signal, suggesting that it is less rapidly targeted for degradation.
Wnt signaling in oncogenesis and embryogenesis--a look outside the nucleus.
Two areas of rapid advance are focused on: the machinery that regulates the stability of the key signal transducer, β-catenin, and the effect of Wnt signaling on cellular targets outside the nucleus, the actin and microtubule cytoskeletons.
The positioning and segregation of apical cues during epithelial polarity establishment in Drosophila
Surprisingly, it is found that Baz localizes to an apical domain below its typical binding partners atypical protein kinase C (aPKC) and partitioning defective (PAR)-6 as the Drosophila epithelium first forms.
Drosophila Tcf and Groucho interact to repress Wingless signalling activity
It is reported that in the absence of Armadillo, dTcf acts as a transcriptional repressor of Wingless-responsive genes, and it is shown that Groucho act as a corepressor in this process.
An in vivo structure-function study of armadillo, the beta-catenin homologue, reveals both separate and overlapping regions of the protein required for cell adhesion and for wingless signaling
The first in vivo structure-function study of an adherens junction protein is performed, by generating and examining a series of Armadillo mutants in the context of the entire animal, and it is demonstrated that Armadillos roles in ad herens junctions and Wingless signaling are independent.
Adherens junction-dependent and -independent steps in the establishment of epithelial cell polarity in Drosophila
Adherens junctions (AJs) are thought to be key landmarks for establishing epithelial cell polarity, but the origin of epithelial polarity in Drosophila remains unclear. Thus, we examined epithelial
The Drosophila afadin homologue Canoe regulates linkage of the actin cytoskeleton to adherens junctions during apical constriction
Data suggest that Cno regulates linkage between AJs and the actin cytoskeleton during morphogenesis, which is not essential for AJ assembly or for AJ maintenance in many tissues.
Wnt signaling from development to disease: insights from model systems.
The current model of Wnt signaling is reviewed and how recent work using model organisms has advanced the understanding of the roles Wnt signaled plays in both normal development and in disease is discussed.
wingless signal and Zeste-white 3 kinase trigger opposing changes in the intracellular distribution of Armadillo.
It is found that cells alter their intracellular distribution of Armadillo in response to Wingless signal, accumulating increased levels of cytoplasmicArmadillo relative to those of membrane-associated protein, which is regulated by Zeste-White 3 kinase.
