Parasitization of invasive gobiids in the eastern part of the Central trans-European corridor of invasion of Ponto-Caspian hydrobionts
The species accumulation curves show stable accumulation of parasite species by all four fish hosts along the studied part of the corridor, from the Dnieper Estuary to the Vistula River delta, and reveals that the studied gobies lose the parasites common in the host native range and accept new parasites from the colonized area. Cucumispora dikerogammari n. gen. (Fungi: Microsporidia) infecting the invasive amphipod Dikerogammarus villosus: a potential emerging disease in European rivers
Dikerogammarus villosus is an invasive amphipod that recently colonized the main rivers of Central and Western Europe and was initially described as Nosema dikerogammari, but phylogenetic analysis based on the complete sequence of SSU rDNA places the parasite outside the genus Nosema and it is therefore ascribed to a new genus Cucumispora. Kudoa trifolia sp. n. - molecular phylogeny suggests a new spore morphology and unusual tissue location for a well-known genus.
