The main gaps in the current knowledge of spermatological characters are mapped and topics for future research are outlined, with special emphasis on those characters that might provide additional information about the evolution of tapeworms and their spermatozoa.
Bothriocephalidean tapeworms (Cestoda) of freshwater fish in Africa, including erection of Kirstenella n. gen. and description of Tetracampos martinae n. sp.
A survey of bothriocephalidean tapeworms (Cestoda) parasitizing African freshwater fish is provided and a new genus is proposed, distinguished from other genera of the Bothriocephalidae by the presence of an apical disc armed with two lateral semicircles of large hooks, cortical vitelline follicles and large-sizedcirrus-sac.
The cestode Atractolytocestus huronensis (Caryophyllidea) continues to spread in Europe: new data on the helminth parasite of the common carp.

Rapid dissemination of this cestode in Europe indicates its ability to colonise new regions, and represents another example of man-made introduction of potential pathogens of carp and other farmed fish.
Revision of Gangesia (Cestoda: Proteocephalidea) in the Indomalayan Region: Morphology, Molecules and Surface Ultrastructure
A phylogenetic analysis based on the partial sequences encoding the large nuclear ribosomal subunit RNA gene has shown that three Indomalayan species, namely G. bengalensis, G. macrones and G. vachai, form a monophyletic group within Gangesia, whereas G. agraensis tends to form a clade with the Palaearctic species of the genus.
Vitellogenesis in the cestode Atractolytocestus huronensis Anthony, 1958 (Caryophyllidea: Lytocestidae)
It was found that formation of vitellocytes shares the same basic patterns in lower tapeworms with parthenogenetic and normal reproduction as well as in other caryophyllideans and/or Neodermata.

An extensive survey of helminth parasites in 1,316 freshwater fish representing 31 species from two aquatic ecosystems in southeastern Slovakia characterized by different level of environmental pollution was carried out, finding a remarkable lack of species diversity in the Tisa River.
