Cybridization was used to create cybrids between citrus canker resistant ‘Meiwa’ kumquat (Fortunella crassifolia Swingle snym) and susceptible grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macfad) cultivars to serve as models for understanding the contribution of chloroplasts to plant disease response and raise the question of whether other alien chloroplast genotypes would condition similar results.

This is the first in vivo interactome database for different citrus cultivars, and it was produced to provide a valuable source of information on citrus and their interaction with the citrus canker bacterium X. citri.
Production of three new grapefruit cybrids with potential for improved citrus canker resistance
Putative cybrid grapefruit plants morphologically equivalent to standard grapefruit from all three combinations were produced, and EST-SSR marker analysis confirmed that the nuclear genome in all the generated cybrids came from the grapefruit parent.
