The dose of MPA in the monthly injectable CycloProvera could be substantially reduced without loss of effectiveness and it is suggested that in the population studied, 100mg Depo provera would be as effective as the usual 150mg dose and that injection of 50mgdepoProversa would provide a contraceptive effect for two months. The MPA levels in blood measured by radioimmunoassay were generally lower when serum was extracted with an organic solvent rather than when the assay was carried out directly in the serum, suggesting the presence in blood of either MPA in a conjugated form or metabolites interacting with the antiserum which were not extracted by the solvents used.
