A population-based study of the drug interaction between proton pump inhibitors and clopidogrel
- D. Juurlink, T. Gomes, M. Mamdani
- Medicine, BiologyCanadian Medical Association Journal
- 31 March 2009
Among patients receiving clopidogrel following acute myocardial infarction, concomitant therapy with proton pump inhibitors other than pantoprazole was associated with a loss of the beneficial effects of clopIDogrel and an increased risk of reinfarction.
Atrial fibrillation in patients with cryptogenic stroke.
- D. Gladstone, Melanie Spring, M. Mamdani
- MedicineNew England Journal of Medicine
- 25 June 2014
Noninvasive ambulatory ECG monitoring for a target of 30 days significantly improved the detection of atrial fibrillation by a factor of more than five and nearly doubled the rate of anticoagulant treatment, as compared with the standard practice of short-duration ECG Monitoring.
Harassment and Discrimination in Medical Training: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
- Naif Fnais, C. Soobiah, A. Tricco
- MedicineAcademic medicine : journal of the Association of…
- 1 May 2014
This review demonstrates the surprisingly high prevalence of harassment and discrimination among medical trainees that has not declined over time and recommends both drafting policies and promoting cultural change within academic institutions to prevent future abuse.
Chronic dialysis and death among survivors of acute kidney injury requiring dialysis.
Acute kidney injury necessitating in-hospital dialysis was associated with an increased risk of chronic dialysis but not all-cause mortality, and the primary end point was the need for chronicdialysis.
Drug-drug interactions among elderly patients hospitalized for drug toxicity.
- D. Juurlink, M. Mamdani, A. Kopp, A. Laupacis, D. Redelmeier
- MedicineJAMA
- 2 April 2003
Many hospital admissions of elderly patients for drug toxicity occur after administration of a drug known to cause drug-drug interactions, and many of these interactions could have been avoided.
A comparison of propensity score methods: a case‐study estimating the effectiveness of post‐AMI statin use
- P. Austin, M. Mamdani
- Political ScienceStatistics in Medicine
- 30 June 2006
The use of statistical hypothesis testing, standardized differences, box plots, non‐parametric density estimates, and quantile–quantile plots to assess residual confounding that remained after stratification or matching on the propensity score varied from 15 to 24 per cent across the different propensity score methods.
Effectiveness of Virtual Reality Using Wii Gaming Technology in Stroke Rehabilitation: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial and Proof of Principle
- G. Saposnik, R. Teasell, M. Bayley
- Medicine, PsychologyStroke
- 1 July 2010
VRWii gaming technology represents a safe, feasible, and potentially effective alternative to facilitate rehabilitation therapy and promote motor recovery after stroke.
Opioid dose and drug-related mortality in patients with nonmalignant pain.
- T. Gomes, M. Mamdani, I. Dhalla, J. Paterson, D. Juurlink
- Medicine, BiologyArchives of Internal Medicine
- 11 April 2011
Among patients receiving opioids for nonmalignant pain, the daily dose is strongly associated with opioid-related mortality, particularly at doses exceeding thresholds recommended in recent clinical guidelines.
Rates of Hyperkalemia after Publication of the Randomized Aldactone Evaluation Study
- D. Juurlink, M. Mamdani, D. Redelmeier
- Medicine
- 5 August 2004
The publication of RALES was associated with abrupt increases in the rate of prescriptions for spironolactone and in hyperkalemia-associated morbidity and mortality and closer laboratory monitoring and more judicious use of spironOLactone may reduce the occurrence of this complication.
Prescribing of opioid analgesics and related mortality before and after the introduction of long-acting oxycodone
- I. Dhalla, M. Mamdani, M. Sivilotti, A. Kopp, Omarah Qureshi, D. Juurlink
- Medicine, Political ScienceCanadian Medical Association Journal
- 8 December 2009
Opioid-related deaths in Ontario have increased markedly since 1991, and a significant portion of the increase was associated with the addition of long-acting oxycodone to the provincial drug formulary.
