Fitness Improvement of Mass-Reared Sterile Males of Ceratitis capitata (Vienna 8 strain) (Diptera: Tephritidae) After Gut Enrichment with Probiotics
Investigating ways of increasing the competitiveness of mass-reared Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) sterile males found enriching the diet of Vienna-8 strain larvae with beneficial bacteria resulted in increase in the number of Enterobacteriacae communities inhabiting the male's gut and a subsequent significant increase of males and other morphometric traits and enhanced sexual performance of males at emergence. Fitness and Reproductive Potential of Irradiated Mass-Reared Mediterranean Fruit Fly Males Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae): Lowering Radiation Doses
The aims of the present work were to verify the relationships between the level of residual fertility, competitiveness and sperm transfer ratio of mass-reared C. capitata males, and radiation dose, and show that radiation dose has a linear relationship with both competitiveness and fertility after suitable transformation. Improvement of Egg Hatch of Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) for Enhanced Output
Embryonated eggs of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) genetic sexing strain, VIENNA 8 were treated with low concentrations of five disinfectants—formaldehyde, iodine, sodium hypochlorite, peracetic acid, and quaternary ammonium—for decontamination and egg hatch improvement, showing promise for decontaminating eggs and improving egg hatch. Species diversity and distribution patterns of Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) from various agricultural crops in Tunisia
The genetic identity of 146 whitefly populations was determined by PCR-RFLP analysis of the COI gene and revealed that only MEAM1 and MED species have been found in Tunisia and strong differences in the species dynamics were recorded according to host plants type. Expand
