The Fab-8 boundary defines the distal limit of the bithorax complex iab-7 domain and insulates iab-7 from initiation elements and a PRE in the adjacent iab-8 domain.
Fab-8 together with the previously identified Fab-7 boundary delimit the first genetically defined higher order domain in a multicellular eukaryote, and it is demonstrated that the insulating activity of the Fab-8 boundary in BX-C is absolutely essential for the proper specification of parasegmental identity by the iab-7 andiab-8 cis-regulatory domains.

This study indicates that a nearly complete set of NOE upper distance constraints for the Antp(C39S) homeodomain and the protein-DNA interface was presently obtained, and shows that the structure calculation used here yields a precise reproduction of the crystal structure from the simulated input data, and also results in hydration of the proteins in the recalculated complex.
Discrimination between SRP‐ and SecA/SecB‐dependent substrates involves selective recognition of nascent chains by SRP and trigger factor
It is shown that SRP recognizes the first signal anchor sequence of a polytopic membrane protein (MtlA) resulting in cotranslational targeting of MtlA to SecY and phospholipids of the plasma membrane, whereas secretory proteins are directed into the SecA/SecB‐mediated post‐translated targeting pathway by means of their preferential recognition by trigger factor.
YidC, an assembly site for polytopic Escherichia coli membrane proteins located in immediate proximity to the SecYE translocon and lipids
Analysis of individual insertion steps of the polytopic E. coli membrane protein MtlA targeted as ribosome‐nascent chain complexes to inner membrane vesicles suggests that YidC forms a contiguous integration unit with the SecYE translocon and functions as an assembly site for polytopic membrane proteins mediating the formation of helix bundles prior to their release into the membrane lipids.

The 1:1 complex of the mutant Antp(C39––S) homeodomain with a 14 bp DNA fragment corresponding to the BS2 binding site was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in aqueous solution to enable a unique docking of the protein on the DNA.

The phylogeny indicates the presence of a common mechanism for FeS cluster formation in mitochondriates as well as in amitochondriate eukaryotes, and supports a common origin of Trichomonas hydrogenosomes and mitochondria, aswell as secondary loss of mitochondrion/hydrogenosome-like organelles in Giardia.

SRP‐dependent co‐translational targeting and SecA‐dependent translocation analyzed as individual steps in the export of a bacterial protein
Analysis of a hybrid protein constructed by fusing the signal anchor sequence of an SRP‐dependent inner membrane protein (MtlA) to the mature part of an exclusively SecA‐requiring secretory protein (OmpA) indicates that SRP and SecA cooperate in a sequential, non‐overlapping manner in the topogenesis of those membrane proteins which harbor a substantial hydrophilic domain to be translocated into the periplasm.
