Pedophilia, Hebephilia, and the DSM-V
- R. Blanchard, A. Lykins, P. Klassen
- PsychologyArchives of Sexual Behavior
- 1 June 2009
It is indicated that hebephilia exists as a discriminable erotic age-preference by examining the agreement between self-reported sexual interests and objectively recorded penile responses in the laboratory.
Intelligence, memory, and handedness in pedophilia.
- J. Cantor, R. Blanchard, M. Kuban
- PsychologyNeuropsychology
- 2004
Pedophilia showed significant negative correlations with IQ and immediate and delayed recall memory and was related to non-right-handedness even after covarying age and IQ.
Sensitivity and specificity of the phallometric test for pedophilia in nonadmitting sex offenders.
- R. Blanchard, P. Klassen, R. Dickey, M. Kuban, T. Blak
- PsychologyPsychological Assessment
- 1 March 2001
Results for offenders against women showed that those who had had sexual contact with the greatest number of women (consenting or nonconsenting) had the lowest probability of being diagnosed as pedophilic.
Cerebral white matter deficiencies in pedophilic men.

IQ, Handedness, and Pedophilia in Adult Male Patients Stratified by Referral Source
- R. Blanchard, N. Kolla, T. Blak
- PsychologySexual abuse. A Journal of Research and Treatment
- 17 July 2007
The results showed that the relations between pedophilia and lower IQ, lesser education, and increased rates of non-right-handedness were the same in homogeneous groups referred by lawyers or parole and probation officers as they were in a heterogeneous group referred by a miscellany of other sources, supporting the conclusion that the relation between Pedophilia and cognitive function is genuine and not artifactual.
A Comparison of Volume and Circumference Phallometry: Response Magnitude and Method Agreement
- M. Kuban, H. Barbaree, R. Blanchard
- Biology, MedicineArchives of Sexual Behavior
- 1 August 1999
It is concluded that at low levels of response both methods are equally good, and at low level of response volumetric phallometry is a more accurate measure of arousal, and 10% FE, or a 2.5-mm circumference increase, should be the minimum response criterion for the circumferential measure.
Pedophiles: Mental Retardation, Maternal Age, and Sexual Orientation
- R. Blanchard, M. S. Watson, Donald J. Ferren
- PsychologyArchives of Sexual Behavior
- 1 April 1999
Among pedophiles ingeneral, erotic preference moves away from adult women along two dimensions: age and sex, so that a pedophile with both factors is more likely to be sexually interested in boys than a Pedophile with only one.
Handedness in Pedophilia and Hebephilia
- J. Cantor, P. Klassen, R. Blanchard
- Psychology, MedicineArchives of Sexual Behavior
- 1 August 2005
The results indicate that the rates of non-right-handedness in pedophilia are much larger than previously suggested and are comparable to the rates observed in pervasive developmental disorders, such as autism, suggesting a neurological component to the development of pedophilia and hebephilia.
The basis of the abused abuser theory of pedophilia: A further elaboration on an earlier study
It is demonstrated that the self-report of having been sexually abused in childhood is mainly connected with pedophilia and status as a sex offender in general was not related to childhood abuse.
Grade Failure and Special Education Placement in Sexual Offenders’ Educational Histories
- J. Cantor, M. Kuban, T. Blak, P. Klassen, R. Dickey, R. Blanchard
- PsychologyArchives of Sexual Behavior
- 18 May 2006
Assessment of adult men following illegal or clinically significant sexual behaviors or interests is consistent with the hypothesis that an erotic age preference for children sometimes results from a perturbation of neurodevelopment occurring early in life.
