It is shown that the class B scavenger receptor SR-BI is an HDL receptor, which mediates selective cholesterol uptake by a mechanism distinct from the classic LDL receptor pathway.

cAMP- and cGMP-dependent protein kinase phosphorylation sites of the focal adhesion vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) in vitro and in intact human platelets.
Experiments with 32P-labeled platelets provided evidence that VASP is phosphorylated at the same three identified sites also in intact cells and that selective activation of cAK or cGK primarily increased the phosphorylation of both serine 2 and serine 1 but not threonine.

Charting the fate of the "good cholesterol": identification and characterization of the high-density lipoprotein receptor SR-BI.

In mice, SR-BI plays a key role in determining the levels of plasma HDL cholesterol and in mediating the regulated, selective delivery of HDL-cholesterol to steroidogenic tissues and the liver.

The phenotypes generated in experimental mouse models for apoA-I, ABCA1, LCAT, SR-BI, and other proteins of the HDL pathway may facilitate early diagnosis of similar phenotypes in the human population and provide guidance for proper treatment.

It is shown that adenovirus-mediated, hepatic overexpression of SR-BI in mice on both sinusoidal and canalicular surfaces of hepatocytes results in the virtual disappearance of plasma HDL and a substantial increase in biliary cholesterol.
Recognition and plasma clearance of endotoxin by scavenger receptors

In vivo studies show that scavenger-receptor ligands greatly inhibit hepatic uptake of lipid IVA in mice, and scavenger receptors expressed on macrophages may have an important role in the clearance and detoxification of endotoxin in animals.
