Multiple liver abscesses secondary to Yersinia enterocolitica.
A 37-year-old male, a poorly-controlled insulin-dependent diabetic patient, was admitted to the authors' hospital with complaints of high fever and confusion; subsequent autopsy confirmed the clinical diagnosis of liver abscess secondary to Yersinia enterocolitica with septicemia. Expand
Studies on lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in human gingiva. II. The patterns of lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in periodontitis.
As kinetic properties of LDH3 and LDH4 in periodontitis gingiva were identical with those from normal gingivas, net synthesis of these isoenzymes was suggested. Expand
[A case of eosinophilic meningoencephalitis caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis with unique brain MRI findings].
The patient was diagnosed as having eosinophilic meningoencephalitis caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis, which was confirmed by immunological tests of double diffusion, counterimmuno-electrophoresis, and ELISA. Expand
Myasthenia gravis and invasive thymoma. A 20-year experience.
Over the last 20 years, 15 patients with myasthenia gravis and invasive thymoma have been treated in the department, and total excision of the thymomas, if possible, and high doses of corticosteroids and combination chemotherapy for the remaining tumor seem to be the treatments of choice. Expand
Glycosaminoglycan changes in submandibular glands of experimental diabetic rats.
[Polymyositis after interferon beta treatment of chronic hepatitis type C].
A 62-year-old female diagnosed as having chronic viral hepatitis type C was treated with beta-interferon and oral prednisolone 60 mg a day was started, and her symptoms and signs improved gradually and she was discharged after 2 months. Expand
Biochemical and histochemical studies on skeletal muscle in rat during the course of development. The biochemical properties of type 2C muscle fiber.
Results suggest that, although histochemical characteristics remain the same, biochemical properties change during the course of muscle development. Expand
[Duchenne muscular dystrophy carrier presenting with mosaic X chromosome constitution and muscular symptoms--with analysis of the barr bodies in the muscle].
Analysis of number of Barr bodies in the muscle specimen revealed that the total number of the bodies were significantly decreased in this case than in the control muscles, indicating that nuclei of 45XO karyotype were evidently present in her muscle and contributed to the process of muscle fiber breakdown as a major pathogenetic factor. Expand
Biochemical study of different conditions of type 2C muscle fiber in rat.
Although histochemical characteristics are the same, significant differences in biochemical properties exist between type 2C fibers in these three different conditions: in the neonatal stage, after neonatal denervation and on regenerating process after bupivacaine-induced injury. Expand
[Familial amyloidosis of the Finnish type (FAP) with extraocular muscle involvement].
A 72-year-old woman, who showed extraocular symptoms approximately 10 years after the onset of the disease, is found to have mild ptopsis, mild to moderate disturbance of almost all extraocular muscles, moderate to severe disturbance of facial, masseter, pharyngeal, tongue and neck muscles. Expand
