Structural analysis of the dnaA and dnaN genes of Escherichia coli.
Examination of the intercistronic sequence and analysis of in vitro transcription supported the notion that the dnaA and dnaN genes constitute a single operon.
A novel truncated isoform of the mannose-binding lectin-associated serine protease (MASP) from the common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
R reverse transcription-PCR analysis showed that both MASP genes of carp produce the two MASP isoforms, MASP and MRP, through alternative polyadenylation and splicing, implying that they meet an essential requirement in the MBL-MASP complex of the lectin pathway.
Cloning and characterization of a gene involved in aerial mycelium formation in Streptomyces griseus
A-factor (2-isocapryloyl-3R-hydroxymethyl-gamma-butyrolactone) is essentially required for aerial mycelium formation and streptomycin production in Streptomyces griseus, and one open reading frame with 218 amino acids served as a multicopy suppressor of the aerialMycelium-defective phenotype of the A-factor-deficient strain.
Acidic mammalian chitinase is a proteases-resistant glycosidase in mouse digestive system
Evidence is provided that acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase) can function as a protease-resistant major glycosidase under the conditions of stomach and intestine and degrade chit in substrates to produce (GlcNAc)2, a source of carbon, nitrogen and energy.
Isolation of cDNA and genomic clones of a human Ras-related GTP-binding protein gene and its chromosomal localization to the long arm of chromosome 7, 7q36.
It will be very important to investigate whether it may play a role in the etiopathogenesis of holoprosencephaly type 3 or hereditary sacral agenesis, in which the disease susceptible locus is linked to the microsatellite marker, D7S22, in this chromosomal region, 7q36.
Molecular cloning and characterization of the human NIMA-related protein kinase 3 gene (NEK3)
The expression pattern of NEK3 was studied by RT-PCR and a high level of expression was detected in testis, ovary, and brain, with low-level expression being detected in most of the tissues studied, and the amount did not change during the cell cycle.
Identification and characterization of STK12/Aik2: a human gene related to aurora of Drosophila and yeast IPL1
Northern blotting analyses revealed that STK12 expression was high in thymus, while low level expression was detected in small intestine, testis, colon, spleen, and brain, and the STK 12 protein content in HeLa cells is low in S phase, but it accumulates during M phase.
Cloning and physical mapping of the dnaA region of the Escherichia coli chromosome
The dnaA gene of Escherichia coli K-12, supposedly present in the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of specialized transducing phase lambda i21 dnaa-2, was cloned onto plasmid pBR322 and the new plasmID was named pMCR501, and physical analyses of DNAs revealed the following.
Loss and Gain of Human Acidic Mammalian Chitinase Activity by Nonsynonymous SNPs
The data suggest that human AMCase has lost its chitinolytic activity by integration of nsSNPs during evolution and that the enzyme can be reactivated by introducing amino acids conserved in the mouse counterpart.
Assignment of STK6 to human chromosome 20q13.2-->q13.3 and a pseudogene STK6P to 1q41-->q42.
Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis of human STK6 encoding a mitotic centrosomal protein kinase, Aik, revealed two signals in chromosome bands 20q13.2-->q13.3 and 1q41-->q42. Somatic cell
