High-harmonic spectroscopy of ultrafast many-body dynamics in strongly correlated systems
- R. E. F. Silva, I. Blinov, A. Rubtsov, O. Smirnova, M. Ivanov
- Physics
- 27 April 2017
We bring together two topics that, until now, have been the focus of intense but non-overlapping research efforts. The first concerns high-harmonic generation in solids, which occurs when an intense…
Attosecond spectral singularities in solid-state high-harmonic generation
- A. J. Uzan, G. Orenstein, N. Dudovich
- PhysicsNature Photonics
- 20 January 2020
Strong-field-driven electric currents in condensed-matter systems are opening new frontiers in petahertz electronics. In this regime, new challenges are arising as the roles of band structure and…
The role of the Kramers–Henneberger atom in the higher-order Kerr effect
- M. Richter, S. Patchkovskii, F. Morales, O. Smirnova, M. Ivanov
- PhysicsConference on Lasers & Electro-Optics Europe…
- 12 May 2013
We discuss the connection between strong-field ionization, saturation of the Kerr response and the formation of the Kramers–Henneberger (KH) atom and long-living excitations in intense infrared (IR)…

Topological strong-field physics on sub-laser-cycle timescale
- R. E. F. Silva, Á. Jiménez-Galán, B. Amorim, O. Smirnova, M. Ivanov
- PhysicsConference on Lasers and Electro-Optics
- 29 June 2018
The sub-laser-cycle timescale of the electronic response to strong fields enables attosecond dynamical imaging in atoms, molecules and solids1–4, with optical tunnelling and high-harmonic generation…
High harmonic generation in crystals using maximally localized Wannier functions
- R. E. F. Silva, F. Mart'in, M. Ivanov
- PhysicsPhysical review B
- 30 March 2019
In this work, the nonlinear optical response, and in particular, the high harmonic generation of semiconductors is addressed by using the Wannier gauge. One of the main problems in the time evolution…
Spatial molecular interferometry via multidimensional high-harmonic spectroscopy
- A. J. Uzan, H. Soifer, N. Dudovich
- Physics
- 1 March 2020
Interferometry is a basic tool to resolve coherent properties in a wide range of light or matter wave phenomena. In the strong-field regime, interferometry serves as a fundamental building block in…
Time-resolved high harmonic spectroscopy of dynamical symmetry breaking in bi-circular laser fields: the role of Rydberg states.
- Á. Jiménez-Galán, N. Zhavoronkov, M. Schloz, F. Morales, M. Ivanov
- PhysicsOptics Express
- 18 July 2017
It is demonstrated that when the second harmonic either precedes or is more intense than the fundamental field, the weak effects of dynamical symmetry breaking caused by finite pulse duration are amplified by electrons trapped in Rydberg orbits (i.e., Freeman resonances), and that the forbidden harmonic lines are a witness of this.
Quantum Dynamic Imaging
- A. Bandrauk, M. Ivanov
- Physics
- 2011
Studying and using light or “photons” to image and then to control and transmit molecular information is among the most challenging and significant research fields to emerge in recent years. One of…
Sub-cycle valleytronics: control of valley polarization using few-cycle linearly polarized pulses
- 'Alvaro Jim'enez-Gal'an, Rui E. F. Silva, O. Smirnova, M. Ivanov
- Physics
- 20 May 2020
So far, selective excitation of a desired valley in the Brillouin zone of a hexagonal two-dimensional material has relied on using circularly polarized fields. We theoretically demonstrate a way to…
