The roundworm Strongyloides stercoralis in children, dogs, and soil inside and outside a segregated settlement in Eastern Slovakia: frequent but hardly detectable parasite
Eosinophilia was regularly present in children with exclusive infection of S. stercoralis and some of the above listed parasites as well as in individuals suffering from mixed infected individuals.
Prevalence of intestinal parasites in children from minority group with low hygienic standards in Slovakia
The occurrence of selected intestinal endoparasites in children coming from areas with low hygienic and socioeconomic status suggests low hyGienic standard in the Roma settlements.
Ectoparasitic species from red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in East Slovakia
The study was carried out from November 2002 to April 2005, with 78 red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in East Slovakia. A total of 2506 ectoparasites were found corresponding to two species of fleas (…
EPIZOOTIOLOGY OF GAME CERVID CYSTICERCOSIS
To assess the prevalence of Taenia species in wild carnivores, which is indicative of or related to infection in cervids, 323 animals were investigated and the presence of T. krabbei in the myocard of red deer was found.
First cases of canine babesiosis in the Slovak Republic
The Nasitrema sp-associated encephalitis in a striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) stranded in the Gulf of Mexico and their possible role in stranding is investigated.
A frequent roundworm Baylisascaris transfuga in overpopulated brown bears (Ursus arctos) in Slovakia: a problem worthy of attention
It is apparent that the respective environment might be markedly contaminated by Baylisascaris eggs, and the ability of B. transfuga to serve as a zoonotic agent should be considered and subjected to further research.
Intestinal mucin dynamic and leukocytic responses of chickens infected with Eimeria acervulina and fed oregano supplemented diet
Results suggest that dietary supplementation of oregano to chickens infected with E. acervulina has a modulating effect on some blood indicators and functions of phagocytes, including mucin dynamics in small intestine, peripheral blood leukocytes, and jejunal immunocompetent cells in ROSS 308 hybrid broilers.
Molecular identification and genotyping of Microsporidia in selected hosts
The aim of the study was to validate the suitability of species-unspecific primer pairs 530F and 580R for genotype determination of the Microsporidia strain and species- specific primer pairs ECUNF and ECUNR, SINTF and SINTR and EBIER1 and E BIEF1 for the determination of Encephalitozoon cuniculi, Encephozoon intestinalis and Enterocytozoon bieneusi species for diagnostic
Occurrence of Cryptosporidium spp. in red foxes and brown bear in the Slovak Republic
The preliminary results emphasize prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp.
Mesocestoides litteratus (Batsch, 1786) (Cestoda: Cyclophyllidea: Mesocestoididae) from the red fox: Morphological and 18S rDNA characterization of European isolates
- I. Literák, F. Tenora, V. Letková, M. Goldová, J. Torres, P. Olson
- 1 December 2006
Mesocestoides litteratus isolates from red foxes in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Spain are examined both morphometrically and by characterization of 18S rDNA to confirm their identity as M. litteratus, a common parasite of the red fox and other carnivores across Europe.
