Evolution of cave Axiokebuita and Speleobregma (Scalibregmatidae, Annelida)
The results support two independent cave colonization events, favoured by the preadaptation of the members of Axiokebuita–Speleobregma lineage to crevicular habitats.
Effects of dredged material disposal on benthic macrofauna near Itajaí Harbour (Santa Catarina, South Brazil)

This comprehensive, inclusive and combined analysis revealed a new perspective on the phylogeny of Protodrilidae: the family is shown to contain six cosmopolitan subclades, each supported by several morphological apomorphies, and with the genus Astomus consistently nested among the other five clades rather than next to these.
Description of three new species of Protodrilus (Annelida, Protodrilidae) from Central America
The findings indicate a putative high diversity of Protodrilus species in the Western Atlantic, comparable to the well-sampled Eastern Atlantic (18 reported species); the close resemblance to described species stresses the importance of detailed morphological studies, preferably including scanning electron microscopy, as well as DNA data, in order to describe and identify species.
Annotated checklist of Echinoderms from Araçá Bay, Southeastern Brazil
It is confirmed that Araca Bay is one of the best known area of echinoderm diversity in Brazil considering that the perimeter of the bay corresponds to only 0.03% of the Brazilian coastline.
Distribution patterns of interstitial polychaetes in sandy beaches of southern Brazil
This study describes the distribution patterns of interstitial polychaetes along morphodynamic gradients on six exposed sandy beaches in Santa Catarina and Parana (South Brazil). Three random…

Gain of palps within a lineage of ancestrally burrowing annelids (Scalibregmatidae)
With palps being a highly debated character in annelid evolution, it is remarkable that prominent ciliated palps are gained within a lineage of ancestrally nonpalpate annelids, most likely increasing their fitness when colonizing a new environment.
Protodrilus (Protodrilidae, Annelida) from the southern and southeastern Brazilian coasts
The finding of P. pythonius and P. corderoi in nearby beaches corroborates other studies showing a higher morphological variability among species in different habitats within the same geographical area than among speciesIn the same habitat in different geographical areas.
A taxonomic overview of marine and estuarine oligochaetes from Brazil

- 1 September 2014
A critical overview of the available taxonomic information on marine and estuarine oligochaetes from Brazil is presented, finding that only 13 of the 600 described species are currently known from Brazil, and 8 exclusively from their type locations.
