A method for controlling the convergence rate of the DPSO using fractional calculus (FC) concepts is proposed and the fractional-order optimization algorithm, denoted as FO-DPSO, is tested using several well-known functions, and the relationship between the fractiona-order velocity and the convergence of the algorithm is observed.

The so-called Otsu problem is solved for each channel of the multispectral and hyperspectral data and the problem of n-level thresholding is reduced to an optimization problem in order to search for the thresholds that maximize the between-class variance.

- Computer ScienceIEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security…
- 19 December 2011
Experimental results obtained in a simulated environment show that biological and sociological inspiration can be useful to meet the challenges of robotic applications that can be described as optimization problems (e.g. search and rescue).

The full integration of compact educational mobile robotic platforms built around an Arduino controller board in the Robot Operating System (ROS) enables the use of several tools for data analysis, easiness of interaction between multiple robots, use of different sensors and teleoperation devices, thereby targeting engineering education.
A Novel Feature Selection Approach Based on FODPSO and SVM
- Pedram Ghamisi, M. Couceiro, J. Benediktsson
- Computer ScienceIEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote…
- 1 May 2015
Experimental results successfully confirm that the proposed feature selection technique works better in terms of classification accuracies and CPU processing time than other studied methods without requiring the number of desired features to be set a priori by users.
