Bioecology of the Ghost Crab Ocypode quadrata (Fabricius, 1787) (Crustacea: Brachyura) Compared with Other Intertidal Crabs in the Southwestern Atlantic
- J. Branco, Juliano César Hillesheim, H. A. A. Fracasso, M. Christoffersen, C. L. Evangelista
- Environmental Science
- 2 August 2010
Ghost crabs provide an alternative source of food for the ground-burrowing owl, a predator that may represent an important population controlling factor, other than the human-induced impacts on sandy beaches, according to researchers from subtropical Praia Brava, Itajaí, Santa Catarina.
PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS OF HIPPOLYTID GENERA, WITH AN ASSIGNMENT OF NEW FAMILIES FOR THE CRANGONOIDEA AND ALPHEOIDEA (CRUSTACEA, DECAPODA, CARIDEA)
- M. Christoffersen
- Biology
- 1 December 1987
The traditional practice of naming monotypic taxa of suprageneric level has been avoided, yet all genealogical information indicated in the cladogram can be retrieved from the final classification proposed here for the Crangonoidea and Alpheoidea.
Population biology of Callinectes danae and Callinectes sapidus (Crustacea: Brachyura: Portunidae) in the south-western Atlantic

- Environmental ScienceJournal of the Marine Biological Association of…
- 2 June 2009
In both species, a tendency was observed for the egg mass to increase with size of females, and the capture per unit of effort presented the lowest values in summer, while the largest values occurred from March, August and November.
Distribution of warm water alpheoid shrimp (Crustacea, Caridea) on the continental shelf of eastern South America between 23 and 35º Lat. S

The southern boundaries of Tozeuma serratum A. Milne Edwards, Salmoneus ortmanni (Rankin) and Processa profunda Manning & Chace have been extended to Sao Paulo, Parana and Uruguay, and Latreutes parvulus (Stimpson), previously not known beyond Sao Paulo has been found to as far south as the Province of Buenos Aires.
A cladistic approach to relationships in pentastomida.
- W. de Oliveira Almeida, M. Christoffersen
- BiologyJournal of Parasitology
- 1 August 1999
This phylogenetic system is largely congruent with the first modern taxonomic arrangement proposed for the Pentastomida, and the internal relationships among the pentastomid subgroups have received much less attention in the past.
A catalogue of Helobdella (Annelida, Clitellata, Hirudinea, Glossiphoniidae), with a summary of leech diversity, from South America
- M. Christoffersen
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 24 August 2009
This is the first reassessment of South American Helobdella in 27 years and a dominant feature of the South American leech fauna is the presence of many terrestrial predaceous forms.
A new superfamily classification of the Caridea (Crustacea: Pleocyemata) based on phylogenetic pattern
- M. Christoffersen
- Biology
- 27 April 2009
Principles of phylogenetic systematics are used to reconstruct 14 monophyletic subgroups of Caridea, based on 19 synaomorphies of adults, which are simpler, genealogically informative and more precisely diagnosed than previous schemes.
