Structure of the O antigen of Escherichia coli K-12 and the sequence of its rfb gene cluster
It is suggested that the K-12 gene cluster is a member of a family of rfb gene clusters, including those of Dysenteriae 1 and Flexneri, which evolved outside E. coli and was acquired by lateral gene transfer.
Comparison of yellow and white pan traps in surveys of bee fauna in New South Wales, Australia (Hymenoptera: Apoidea: Anthophila)
It is demonstrated that differently coloured traps collect different components of the Australian bee fauna, and a variety of pan colours should be used when sampling overall bee biodiversity, but specific colours may be more effective when targeting certain groups or species.
Flavones induce expression of nodulation genes in Rhizobium
It is reported here that flavones found in washings of undamaged clover roots induce nod gene expression, suggesting that there may be a unique set of signals for each type of plant–bacterium interaction.
Mortality in rheumatoid arthritis. Increased in the early course of disease, in ischaemic heart disease and in pulmonary fibrosis.
There was a modest increase in mortality in RA, mainly in the first 7 yrs, but treatment-related deaths were low, and risk factors included less favourable socio-economic status, markers of disease severity and diminished function within the first year.
Clovers secrete specific phenolic compounds which either stimulate or repress nod gene expression in Rhizobium trifolii
It is proposed that these phenolic compounds secreted from the roots of white clover plants act at the bacterial membrane or that an active uptake system is involved.

Characterisation of glycerophosphorylated cyclic β-1,2-glucans from a fast-growing Rhizobium species
Diversity and conservation status of native Australian bees
Australia’s idiosyncratic bee fauna is characterised by a combination of numerous endemic taxa and by the complete absence of some families, and more than half the named taxa are in need of revision.
